The epic struggle to survive.

header1.png

Thousands of years ago the gods, in their loneliness, took a piece of themselves and forged companions. These companions, children of the gods themselves, were twisted and demonic in nature. The gods felt as though this was a catastrophic failure and that they had failed in their endeavor to produce true companions. These feelings were not unknown to the gods’ companions and after a time they unexpectedly turned against their masters, slaughtering many. The few gods who remained sealed away the threat and, in their increasing loneliness, tried to take a piece of the sky.
From the sky and the power of the gods, the Fae were born. The Fae could hear the whispers of the winds and controlled that which the god's themselves used.  The gods feared another revolt, this time from the powerful Fae, so they turned the Fae into a feral and wild race that scattered mindlessly to the forests and valleys.
The gods, now lonelier than ever, believed the threat to be over and and in their final attempt to cure their everlasting loneliness. created new companions from pieces of the earth. The gods cursed this new race of companions, these Humans, binding them forever to the soil as not to challenge them. These new companions were sharp, intelligent and keen, yet created completely powerless and bound to the world for all eternity.

Humans, new companions to the gods, sated the gods thirst for a companionship. However, the fatal flaw of mortality gave the children of earth a thirst for knowledge, power, kinship and all other manner of things; so they roamed the earth, eventually encountered the Fae. The children of the sky grew to be natural protectors of the defenseless children of the earth and in time the two races grew fond of each other, even taking lovers of the opposing race.
The bond between a Human and a Fae gave birth to a hybrid of sorts with the intellect of a Human and the raw magical ability of the Fae; this power released the children of the earth from their powerless state and struck fear into the hearts of their gods. The gods own power was rivaled by that of this new race, and the gods foresaw disaster for their few numbers.
With fear, the gods released the seals they had kept on their children and unleashed the demons upon the Fae and Humans. After a long and bitter conflict that wreaked havoc on the world, did the children of the sky and earth fall, unable to match the raw untapped power of the children of the gods. In a final desperate attempt to save themselves and their earthly companions, the Fae struck a deal with their creators: to be bound to the earth forever more, stripped of all their powers. And so the gods, no longer fearing the union between a Human and a Fae, sealed off their children once more and left the shores of the world, abandoning their creations.
The Fae, now bound to earth, were granted knowledge that rivaled Humans, but were sick and few in numbers. The few remaining Fae slowly died, and the children of the sky faded into the worn pages of history. None remain now, but the final creation of the gods, children of the earth, thrive along with the those born from a union between Fae and Human, those who wield the wild arts of magic.

In the past year, the leader of the Empire has been killed under unknown circumstances involving magic. This is one of many incidences involving magic that have led the The Empire and the general population to fear those born with magic abilities. What's causing these disturbances?
The Emperor's son, now leader of the Empire, seeks power, and uses this opportunity and time of fear to launch an attack against any who have the power to oppose him. Those with magic abilities, even in neighboring countries have found themselves hunted and prosecuted; often being killed, locked in dungeons or forced to fight to death in gladiator rings. The Empires military force has increased all over the land and constantly hunts out the presence of magic ability.
There have been rumors that The Empire have taken captive neighboring rulers who were said to be on a  diplomatic mission within The Empire. Acrania, the only other country with military presence of any power, lacks the numbers to directly confront the Empire. But with Acrania's rulers under The Empire's lock and key, it is unknown who is running the country.
These are but distant murmurs on the wind to two friends in an isolated village in the northern Empire. The two friends with weak magical abilities are unknowing and unsuspecting of whats about to come.

Just by browsing through your screenshots, I can see you have great outdoor mapping skills. The town ones and the forest ones are especially impressive. There were a few grammatical mistakes here and there, but nothing to stop me from reading, and it was certainly legible. Just one thing-to me, some of your "features" aren't really features at all. Some, like "multiple plot twists" are thing to me that you should already expect in an RPG game.

I'm going to keep watching this

I agree with Luminier about the overlays, but none the less this looks like a fun game.
Some of the characters seem interesting, Jaylee especially...

So, good luck with this.

half-assed features = removed. what i was trying to imply was that while it may sound cliche at first, it evolves into something more complex.

and i'll get someone to read over my stuff and help me with the spelling and grammer. thanks for your comments :]

Hi excessive use of overlays. Seriously, those sunbeams really detract from the quality of the maps.
well hey back at you too! *sigh* i will admit that excessive overlays are my weakness. D: the overlays are actually somewhat of an experiment. seeing as im using random weather, they dont really work out and are only on a few select maps; like 5, tops! i swear! *cowers*

Thanks! :]

It makes me so happy when a project that looks like this pops up in PD. I found your legend pretty interesting and the story has potential to be great. Your maps also look great, but please, don't go overboard with the overlays.

why thaaank you! omg, you have no idea how relieved i am to hear people actually think this is ok. ive seen people post crappy work here and get slaughtered. XD

i will SO  lay off the overlays.

Good story, good mapping (I don't find the overlays bad, but maybe these are updated?), but

These companions, demons, children of the gods themselves, were twisted and demonic in nature.

Seems a little redundant. After all, if something is a demon, isn't it by nature demonic (Meaning, having the properties of a demon?).

i actually just added that a few minutes ago. i was reading threw it, and at the end it said "the gods released the demons" and i thought a reader might be like: what the hell, demons? where did they come from ZOMWTFFF?! O:

anyways, thanks for letting me know. fixed.

Ah, those maps look brilliant. Keep it up!

The cave one looks like it could use just a little more work. Try working some of the tileset splicing you did for the other chipsets on it. That way you have more objects to deal with.

OMG! This looks like a really great game. I like the story concept and the Maps are definitely brilliant! I really like your maps there what really caught my eye, I want a demo now lol! But I will be patient.

Don't listen to the overlay haters, I think it looks incredible just as it is.

While I don't find the plot to be anything special, I still think this could be a very enjoyable game. I'll be sure to have a go at it once a demo is out.

thanks for all the great thoughts you guys! :]
and thanks to Missingno for the mention on the homepage and "The week in RMXP.org!"

UPATED! with a new character and some new screenshots.

The legend was brilliant. I'm not 100% why, but I'm really interested in it. The characters are all very unique, which I like, although I can see a little cliché shtuffs creeping in here and there, but I'm sure that isn't too bad. The history is detailed, but I would like to know more about the Gods. What is their history? Why were they lonely if there were so many of them (as they are soon relinquished into a few)?... I'm sure there are valid answers here.

Apart from this, the screenshots look lovely. I particuarly admire the road in the forest; t'was beautiful yet easy to navigate. For some reason reminds me of that in Master of the Wind. And the town also looks pretty detailed yet fluent too. It makes me happy how someone is making maps like this because I love them. You know, a boring easy to move in map = :|, and a flourishing eye candy of a map, near impossible to move in = :|, but them together :D.

Keep it up! :)
I love Tristan's sprite and character bio btw. It stood out as I was scrolling down and made me read more of the characters. Tori is amazing
AH MAY ZINGG!

Why thank you, This is actually chronologically the second game in the series im planning on making. the first will explain the legend more in depth, but currently, its just a myth in this game. to give you a heads up: the gods are extremely competative and proud, which leads them to not bond with one another and to isolate themselves. there are only a few who make friendships with one another.

lol, AND you can now adopt Tori and place it in your siggy if you would like. (see top post)
also updated with a mining screen shot.

The new screenshots look fantastic. Your mapping is very impressive. However, the cliff screenshot looks a little...weird. I dunno why, but it seems like if they jump off the bridge, they will fall into deep space. But that's just my perspective.

Also, you changed the logo. Personally, I liked the old logo better, but I suppose it's more of a personal choice.

the cliff IS awkward, im not quite sure how to fix the perspective of it though, i may end up putting a new panorama in there to fix that.

and i totally realise the old logo was better, unfotunetly, im not as talented as hanzo kimura. the old one didnt match the title screen at all, so hopefully i can re-request another one from hanzo, this time with the title screen in mind.
thanks for the feedback. :]

Sorry, one little comment. The first map you have in your screenshots spoiler...yeah there's a tree trunk right next to the cabin. Is this reasonable? I mean tree trunks represent trees that existed before they were cut down, right. But if a tree existed there it would break into the house, not enough space for a tree with a trunk that thick, unless of course the cabin was built after the tree was cut down. You understand what I'm getting at? But normally people wouldn't notice these things.

Other than that, great mapping.
