Photoshop CS4 + Globe?

*if you know how to do it in Corel or GIMP, or anything else, that would help too. I have CS4.*

I am trying to learn how to create a world globe. I wanted to make it so where it looked like a globe and I could make clouds over it, fire (the planet is on fire), pieces of the earth are cracked...things like that. The reason I ask is because I tried to run searches on Google and found some, but they had buttons in it that I didn't have in my copy of CS4....

This is what I got from GIMP. I only have a horrible quality version of the picture I want to turn into a globe, so please don't mind the ugly blurriness of it. :D

Does anyone know how to create something like this in Photoshop or Corel/GIMP? I mostly need to know how to make a globe out of a worldmap I would make and how to put clouds on it and make the ocean seem...more oceany. Unless this was created in Maya or something :<

Thank you for reading! Any help would be very appreciated!

Don't think you need Maya for something like that.
This can easily be done in any version of photoshop.
Bascially you'll just need to know what you're doing. It's very simple to apply textures/images to an object.
For a planet, you'd need a lens filter if memory serves.
look up tutorials on 'making planets' and you'll find what you need!

Okay, whoo. I tried to use the Maya trial, but the download wouldn't install so I had to ask lol

So this will work on any Photoshop -- CS4, Essentials and CS5?
Wow, I tried this as a Google search "Photoshop Making Globes" :facepalm @ myself for forgetting the word "planet"

Okay, do you know where I get "Lens Filter" for Photoshop?

*By the way, thank you so much for replying. :cute:

Your filters are in the Filters dropdown menu.
I use CS3, but I don't think Essentials is like the normal versions of PS. Never used it, so I can't say for sure.
Anyway, Filters in the dropdown. I dont know for sure if this is what you'll need, because I haven't done one of these in a long time, so just look up the tutorials.

Okay, I watched a tut on youtube. It was in a dropdown called "3d".

One more question, I know how to make some clouds, but does anyone know how I could make something like this:

I tried many searches before I started the thread, because I knew it would be the hardest....would it just be a brush or a texture or something?

You could certainty use brushes. There's a lot of tutorials on making fire. Just get the basics before you tackle something big like this.

Alright, thanks again!

Now I just have to get a graphics card that supports 3D Rendering, mine doesn't :<
No PS till then, sadly! But I'm gonna bookmark this thread.

Thanks again, you really helped me out! A lot! :girl:

*If I could rep, I'd totally rep you ^,^

You shouldn't need a real 3D Rending....what kind of computer do you have that doesnt have a Graphics card that supports it? I have a 2008 Dell and it does it just fine.... Unless, and i probably misread, you are shooting for a real 3D image.
I haven't touched a PS version past cs3 because im cheap and dont want to upgrade, but i think cs5 has 3d tools, right? If not, your version of Illustrator has a few 3d tools that are...kind of hard to use but get the job done.
No need for the rep, i wish i could give you more direct help!

It has 3D options that can help you make 3D objects, especially planets. But when I click it, a popup comes up and says my card needs to support RD3 Modeling and Shading. I went and looked at the requirments, and I need a card that supports OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Moder 3.0. I was looking at a card last night for 49.99, but my PC's graphic card has a weird fit, so I have to check somehow, if it'll fit my motherboard.

I'm running a mostly Intel PC with Windows 7 Basic. The filters tools in PSCS5 doesn't work for me, so its not just 3D tab. :(

Oh, thanks for the brush help too! Its kinda hard to find the right tutorial, but I'll be okay ^,^

Oh, but you did help me! My only problem now, is a graphics card *sigh* but the moment I get a better card, all the help and information you gave me will help me make a planet/Globe!
