Phantasy Star Universe(PS2)

Mega Flare

Awesome Bro

Has anyone played this game yet? I know Andy6000 has. I got this game at launch and man its like the best game I have played in a very long time. IMO it should Win Game of the Year and or RPG of the Year. I haven't played a game this good since Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. The story mode is not that good. Its short, voice acting sucks, story is not that great(its a lot better then Phantasy Star Online) and lastly its was easy. But who really cares about story mode really? Its all about Online and Extra Mode. I haven't got online yet. I'm geting online for Christmas(Yay!). So right now i'm playing Extra Mode. I have a lvl 42 Cast Hunter lvl 9. Once I get Hunter to lvl 10 i'm going to change to ether a Force or a Ranger. I want to get all 3 Classes at lvl 10. The one thing I don't like about Extra Mode is that they didn't have the expert classes:(. So what what do you all think about the game?

I have the PC version, bought it a few weeks ago, uninstalled it. Compared to PSO, this is much worse. There's so little to do, and all the monsters are just reskins(seriously, I have yet to see a non-boss monster, with the exception of 2 on Motoab, that are not just reskins of the 5 default on Parum). There's very little to do, other then grind up. PSO had you completing maps, doing quests, hunting rares. PSU has... doing the same mission over... and over.. and over. Offline mode is not supported at all, and you really feel left out(if you're offline only, like myself), considering Sonic Team said it was going to be a full game.

In the end, I paid $60 for a reminder of why I'll never buy a Phantasy Star game again, and why I should definetly consider buying ANY game from Sonic Team ever again. A huge dissapointment. Which is sad, considering that the core combat mechanics are a huge step up from PSO(rangers kick ass now, very fun, for the first few days). After a week or two, you'll be passing it by. Whenever I look at my computer, I always perfer DMC3(I got the PC version along with PSU, and witht he exception of a few easily solved controller issues, it is very fun) to PSU...

And for online fans, don't expect a full game. When Sega/Sonic Team launched, you didn't even get the full disk's worth of content, about 1/3rd I think it was at launch(never played online, don't ask me about it). I also hear that online has a bug where people can come and go in your room as they please, PMzeroing your PMs and taking your items.

# Level Cap bumped up to 60, Photon Arts able to achieve level 30, for Expert Classes that support high-level PAs.

# 10+ S-Rank Missions will become available during the month of December, across all areas, including a new dragon.

To tell you that this game is alot better then PSO. The only thing PSO has on PSU is that well it was more addictive.

You have yet to touch the actual part that makes it worse: The repetitivness. Now, PSO was, but, not to this extent. Every enemy you kill(non boss) is almost garunteed to have a reskin on ANOTHER PLANET. So basicly, it's killing the exact same stuff over... and over... and over... again. Also, most of the stuff that was added online was in the offline package(advanced classes aren't required offline, since you can get to 30 PA anyway).

I hear axe is a big dissapointment, and the cards are actually the fan weapon things you can obtain in offline.

The 70 different species may be true, but most are still reskins. And also, even though PSO had you doing similar things, there was always something to hunt for, or a difficulty to beat. PSU just has you leveling up, since there's only a few weapons anyway.

Tell me when you've clocked 1000 hours, and then see if you can do any more. Once the shiny new game effect wears off, and you've done every dungeon, and collected all of the very small weapon batch, you'll realize this has nothing on PSO(okay, combat mechanics, otherwise, nothing).

BTW: Mags>crappy loli PM

I just got online and so far its pretty good. Im only lvl 5 right now. But right now its fun. To bad I have to wait till the 27th to get a USB Keyboard

...ok, you want it to win Game of the Year, and RPG of the year...but you say the story mode sucks?!?

You do realize that to win something like that, you need a game that is 100% enjoyable.

Plus, it's like any other MMO...repetitive, no matter how different it is from them. Do this, collect/kill this, return to me/head to another guy, Do this, collect/kill this, ...see the pattern? :P

So I'm confused I was seriously thinking about buying this game after looking it up on youtube [[plus MGS 3:Subsistence is getting on my nerves. Damn headshots.]] But is it worth it or not? And the main question is: is the online free? That was the problem with Fight Night Round 3...So yeah shed some light before I spend money because if not then I'll just buy Oblivion for PC or maybe the Sims 2...So all in all is it worth it or not? ~enjoi

Oh yeah and can you chat without using a USB keyboard? I don't have one and well I have to manually type things using the controller. So if you can do that and the game doesn't suck then I'll buy it.

There is a 15 dollar a month online fee for the game (Might be 10, but I can't recall which right now). And I'd pass on Oblivion...it's an awesome game, but unless you have a top notch system, you'll be playing it where it looks like ass, and you'll be lucky if it doesn't crash to windows every 15 minutes (I have a medium range system, and a medium range video card, and I have a lot of trouble running it even at lowered settings)

the game costed my about $59.10 Canadian or 49.95 US for 180 Days. Plus if its your first time you get 30 days more free. So about 4.2 cents a day tp play.

Skip PSU, get PSO. When it comes to diablo styled dungeon crawling, nothing beats PSO. You can also find a free (unnofficial) server for version 2.

PSU has you doing a similar thing, but with very small weapon selection and the exact same enemies in different colours.

Ahh thank you very much. And I think I'll just settle on the Sims 2. While I am in love with the Elderscolls and I do have the proper system to play it. I think I'll just stick with the Sims. Thank you so much for pointing out these crucial details before I went out and blew my money...But Onimusha Dawn of Dreams caught my eye as well....I don't know. I think I'll just stick with the Sims 2. ~enjoi

Mega Flare, it's worse on the official servers. Especially with FSOD and the like, ST didn't really care, and took no action at all to stop the hacking. I expect that soon the same thing will happen with PSU.

the official Servers are closing next year. And I don't think to many are on that Unofficial server is like dead. Last time I was on there was like only 100 People on and that was one day before PSU came out. So now i bet theres even less people playing online.

I got PSU for PS2 about a month ago for 20 bucks on Amazon. For that price, the game was well worth it, even for the offline. However, that enormous price markdown has since been removed, and I can't exactly recommend it for the full 50-60 dollars. Add that 10 bucks a month for online, I don't know if you're really getting your money's worth.
