Hey everyone.It's about time I posted some info about my first XP game.
It's a retelling of a classic Sega RPG released back in 1994.
It's called Phantasy Star IV:A Retelling.
Let's get down to the basics first.

Intro

The Algo solar system,somewhere in space...
Prosperous,flourishing and well-educated in the
manner of all things natural and scientific.

Life was prosperous and good.

Then disaster struck,one of such magnitude
it would alter the lives of everyone involved...

A massive explosion,near extinction of the
human race,a desperate attempt to flee
the ensuring chaos...

And society spiralled downwards into an
almost medieval-like state.The advancements
made in technology were lost,as were over
90 percent of the first planet,Parma's,populace...

And now,nearly a 1000 years later,our tale begins...




Storyline

You play as Alys,a female bounty Hunter on an investigative mission,along
with her partner,Chaz Ashley.Mysterious monsters have suddenly
appeared in the basement of Motavia Academy,and the Dean has
called you to have a look into it.This simple mission eventually spans
into an adventure that will span three diffrent worlds,and Alys
and the rest of her companions find themselves pitted against a seemingly
unstoppable enemy,an ancient evil being long thought closed.It may seem
a bit basicin the beginning,but there are plenty of shocker moments
as you progress through the game...

Setting

In the Phantasy star games series, Algol is the name of the planetary
system that serves as the setting for the first four installments of the
Phantasy Star computer role-playing game series.The system consists of a
single star (called Algol or Algo), around which orbit four planets: Palma, Motavia, Dezoris and Rykros(in order from closest to farthest). Many space stations
and other artificial satellites exist in the system as well.

The names of the planets (and even the system itself) are sometimes spelled
differently from game to game.In Phantasy Star Universe, the Gurhal
system fills in for Algol, with three new planets seen as tributes to
the original three from Algol. The name Algol was probably taken from
real life – The real Algol is a star system (not a planetary system) in the
constellation Perseus.PSIV takes place in the year AW 2284,roughly 1000
after the 'Great Collapse'.

Motavia
Motavia was originally a desert planet, but it was radically transformed because of two events: the Conjunction in AW 843 which caused the planet to orbit farther from Algol; and Mother Brain's climate control program which included extensive forestation
and irrigation, started in AW 852. By AW 1284, the planet was green and
water was abundant, but the destruction of the Climate Control Center
(Climatrol) and the resulting flooding of the planet's four dams started
a slow reverse of the planet's environmental state. By the time
of Phantasy Star IV, most of the planet's surface has reverted back to desert.

Parma
Palma is a green planet, and apparently the original homeworld of the Palmans, Algol's most widespread species. The planet was ruled by the evil emperor Lassic
in the first game, but he was defeated in AW 286 and Alis Landale was established as Queen.

In the Conjunction of AW 843, the planet switched orbits with Motavia, bringing
it much closer to Algol; just a year later, the royal family was murdered
by the Earthmen, who then established democracy on the planet.
By AW 868, Mother Brain had taken control of the planet. Palma was the
center of the Algol system's government until AW 1284, when the space
satellite Gaira malfunctioned and caused the planet's destruction.
This destruction of Palma was called the Great Collapse.

Dezolis

Dezolis is an ice planet populated by green-skinned intelligent humanoids.
Because of the planet's harsh environment and dangerous native creatures,
very few Palmans and no Motavians live on the planet; it is for this reason
that the Espers live here in the hidden Esper Mansion.

The protaganist of PSIV:A Retelling.
A bounty Hunter whose prowess with the blade and good looks
have earned her an awesome reputation.A witty,sarcastic woman
with an infamous temper.She was orphaned at age 14,when her
parents were murdered by highway bandits,and it was one of
the reasons why she became a Hunter in the first place:to ensure
that what happened to her parents doesn't happen to anyone
else,not if she can prevent it.

Chaz Ashley

Alys' lovable,though somewhat dim partner.He is a fresh recruit to the Hunter's
Guild,and strives to be like his partner and best friend,Alys.He is hot-headed and
immature at times,but certain situations bring out his more heroic side.

Hahn Mahlay

A kind-hearted scholar who accompanies Alys...(for a fee,of course),in
order to discover the whereabouts of his missing Professor.
A bit of a coward at times,and is a nervous wreck around Alys.(Perhaps
hinting at something?)

Rune Walsh

An arrogant,(but gorgeous)soul,Rune is descended from a race
that marks him as a rare breed,the Espers,the only remnant
of Parmanians who possess few have seen and even fewer
possess...true magic.He knows Alys from a past encounter,though
how they met still remains a mystery.He shares a very powerful
bond with the Hunter.

Estimated gameplay time:Around 10-12 hours if you know what
you are doing.

When I went to play it, I couldn't see the text. I think you should either have the font in the game, or a link to the font. Not everyone will have the same fonts. I gave up, because there are so many different fonts.
 
Oh man,I just playtested the game to find out that Alys couldn't
move at all!I'm busy uploading the updated version of the game
right now.Silly thing was,I changed some of the maps in Piata
and only discovered now that Alys was standing on an immovable
tile. :huh:
Once again,I apolagize for the inconvienience I caused because
of my blunder and don't use the game's current download link.
I'll try and get it onto Megaupload soon,because right now,it's
gonna take about 3 hours to upload,speed that it's going. :shock:

Hopefully it'll be up soon.
 
Well i've played a bit of the game and there are some bugs that need to be worked out namely the mapping. Some tiles i can move right through namely the fountain. Noticing some objects out of place like a chair on the wall tile inside the piata school building.

And a bug with one of the events in the pub that if you talk to the said person from above after the event you cannot move at all so just to let you know about that.

Now i found a major bug problem which happens after meeting rika in the bio plant inside birth valley. Now if you go back to the village as shown in this screenshot.

Thanks for pointing out those bugs guys.Yeah,the mapping is a bit hard at times,
but I'll upload a reworked version as soon as possible.Sorry about that bio-plant bug... :sad:
Now you can't continue...And that's where the pace of the game really starts hotting up..
Anyway,like I said,I'll upload a better version in due time.

Your welcome and i already completed the demo though i wonder if positive status effects are supposed to be like that stay in effect after the battle. Cause that kinda makes it easy to exploit. Though i know Growlanser 3 allowed you to cast those spells before a battle. which was very apporpriate given it's a SRPG.

EDIT: I also added some more screens in the same topic. for more bugs since the board seems to not like me posting images in spoilers for some reason. So there's more than three screenshots.
 
Oh,hey all.Yeah,I fixed those bugs that you mentioned,XP Learner.I'll
see if I can get the updated demo up later today.The enemies now
perform status-inflicting spells on you,and they're harder to kill.
So,do you like the new Alys?I was wondering whether to add her good 'ol
slashers into the game and wondering if the demo wants you to play on more? :biggrin:
About those status effects...Seeing that it is so easy to exploit,I 'might'
remove them after battle.Coyotero,what would you be willing to do for
my game?Any talents?Please let me know. :grin:
 
I really like the new alys since it's really makes the game more interesting though i wish there was a change party option since having rika would make a lot of the boss battles more tolerable especially zio castle since Sar would been highly needed in that area.
 
Rika becomes playable in the full version of the game. :biggrin:
That is still a long way from being fully completed though.Are the battles
challenging enough?Do you know what to do with the extra loot the enemies
drop? :wink: (Think extra items and better weapons.)Are the maps too
easy?I would love some feedback.
 
Oh i know what to do with the loot i mostly sell it till i figure out that you can make items and weapons out of them. Though a few of the battle animations are a bit buggy (There's a screen i posted in spoilers showing that.) as well as another of one of the enemies (Which i have found but i'm sure you realize which one.) Though i was wondering does Alys Airslash supposed to attack one enemy then damage all of them. Or is that an unique move.

Oh and the battles are quite a challenge themselves since this game encourages status ailements and debuff. Vol saved my life against the sandworms in Zio Castle.
 
I don't have much time to play this right now
but from what I see off the thread here are my thoughts:

The game seems pretty interesting but is there anything new over the original?

The RTP clashes HORRIBLY with your custom work >.<

Your exterior maps look nice; however your interior maps are overly big...
WHY ARE THEY SO HUGE?
 
You're too young to even remember the Sega Genesis. It was a good game for an under appreciated system.

As for the remake... can't say I'm terribly fond of seeing custom art mixed with game rips. Also, your maps have quite a few errors, and some of the tiles even look blurry, unless my eyes are getting worse than I thought.
 
Oh...my...word....There were sandworms in Zio's Fort...?!?! :shock: That's actually
a bug.The reposted demo doesn't include them,though.As for the rips clashing
with my custom artwork,Asch,I'm actually redoing all the cutscenes in the
game.May take a while before I upload it here,though.
Yeah,I am fairly young.I was only six when the original came out...incidently,
three days after my birthday. :biggrin:
