Peri's assorted stuff.

Figured I ought to make one of these! Anyway, I'll use this to toss up the assorted stuff I do. Critique is, of course, appreciated. :3 Some of this is quite old, and some of you may have seen it before, but in the interest of stuffing this full of pretty pictures...

WIP. First real attempt at painting in PS with a tablet, and I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along. Feedback is appreciated, of course, but the only thing that's really done per se is the group of rocks on the left.

Charcoal on some weird paper. Done for drawing class last year.

You've probably seen the other thread, but I'm putting it here for the sake of completion.

Some isometric guys, possibly the beginning of a template? I dunno, I was just screwing around.

Pixel portrait I tried a while ago.

Space Art:
Haven't done any of this in foreeeeever, but here are some old things of mine.

The planet's definitely the nicest planet I've ever made (composite of like five or six textures, I think), but I'm not that happy with the overall composition. Oh well! I like the star field, actually; I did something different with it than I had in the past, and I like the way it came out.

I like this one because the Jupiter texture was done mostly from scratch, barring a bit of textured brushing for touchups.

Made for some kid whose dad died. Really old, but it's kinda neat. The landscape was rendered in Bryce, which makes everything look like clay, but oh well!

I think your space art( especially first) look amazing.

Love all your pixel art as usual and the painting is coming along nicely. Where do you find the time?!

Yeah, the space art is in reverse chronological order. I should've put them the other way so they'd get more impressive.

And I don't find time. :x The only thing there that's new is the painting, and that's been a wip for a long time now.

Dammit Peri! If only you weren't so good. I do love the space stuff the most as well. But the first enviroment reminds me a lot of Mr.Delicious' stuff when he started out.

NOT MY ARTWORK!!!
Hahah he has a pornstar name.

You also seem to have a handle on charcoal. I'm not a huge fan of it because its to messy.

But yeah you're a well rounded artist. A hell of a pixeler and do good for the community. :)

How do you get that stringy quality though? I've been curious as to how its done because it makes for some damn interesting results.

But since I have to give critique I"d say that your traditional piece is your weakest one out of all of them. Just for obvious reasons.

The stringy quality? I assume you mean the beach. Uh, it's just a bunch of hard round brushes at different opacities. Most of the time I brush on normal, but occasionally I switch to linear burn or multiply. In general I just scribble a lot to get stuff on there, then paint over it if it doesn't look right. And that's an interesting drawing! I like the style, and yeah, it reminds me of what I was doing.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. :3

No no you see how like the trees and the rocks are kinda the same as the actual girl in the one by Mr.Delicious? Thats the look I want to obtain. Almost Rotoscoped or whatever its called. But word. I feel you on that. Will you keep updating this thread? :3

I meant my beach picture, sorry. But yeah, the whole thing is just hard round brushes. When I was sketching it in, I used 100% opacity, then started lowering it when I went back to detail the rocks.

Self-portrait - The lips are amazing! I so can't do detail like that with charcoal. I just end up with a terrible, smudgy mess.

Beach - Very cool, very interesting-looking. I think I would give up a kidney to see a game with painted backgrounds like this.  I'm not too fond of some of the patterns of the green squigglies, looks a bit messy, but from the looks of it that was intentional. The rocks also look pretty detailed, and it stands out a bit much from the simple colors of the rest of the piece.

Node - The details on the face are way neat, and I gotta admit, I'm loving the neck-wires too. :3 My only nitpick would be the wavyness of the arms looks rather odd, but I'm sure that's purely a stylistic choice.

Your pixel art makes me absolutely green with envy. No comments, or I may accidentally yell "REVEAL YOUR SECRETS!" and jump at you.

The waviness in the node's arm is intentional, yes. The arms are constructed of segments that can freely rotate about their joints, which make for really flexible arms.

And yeah, I'm not done with the beach yet. I'll post updates here, though!

Also, thanks for the comments. :3
