PC dead...

My sister's PC is pretty much dead. Every now and then the screen sort of half turns off, but the corner of the screen flashes strangely. Then, a few days ago, the mouse started playing up - it seems locked on a certain spot on the screen and wont move out of a space 2 cm from that point on the screen. Restarting the PC doesn't help solve the mouse problem. Plus, if the mouse is unplugged, it sometimes starts moving...

Norton AV, Windows Defender, Adaware SE, Spybot S+E, all haven't found anything.

Anyone else had these problems/ know how to fix?

It's a Dell Dimension 2400, Windows XP Home Edition, the screen is a 15in (I think) Dell flat-panel, and the mouse is a USB 2.0 Dell optical mouse.

Hmm...

When's the last time you defragmented the computer? How long have you had it?

I'll see if I can find anything about this sort of thing; I'm working on my A+ Certification, so this should be solvable...

If your talking about the monitor when you say screen (Which I assume is the case) then I've had this problem before, or something similar to it. It'll turn off, and red lines with flash down the middle and then fade out. However, the computer doesn't shut off the monitor's just fucked to bejesus. You could try and smack it (Don't overdo it, as I did) but it's ultimatly not worth it. Otherwise, I don't know. I need to get my (old)monitor fixed now.

I don't know about the mouse problem, but your monitor problem sounded familar.

I had the same mouse problem your sister was having about a month and ago. My mouse was locking on the screen and sometimes I needed to unplug it for a while and then replug it back in (which only sometimes it would start moving again). Also another problem was with the mouse jumping uncontrollably every time I tried to move it.

This isn't a computer problem, it is a mouse problem. She will need to buy a new mouse.

As far as the screen goes, it sounds like a monitor problem (as the rest of the people here already said).
