Patients of Fate [aka VX RTP project]

Hey, I'm RikuCrafter. This is the first game I've ever posted on HBGames!

This game is developed with RPG Maker VX utilizing nothing but the RTP and scripts that come with the game, along with (what I think is) and deep and meaningful story. Some items and enemies will be added by me, but will use the default graphics.

STORY:
Three years earlier, a boy named Eye was very close to a girl named Eilei. They played together everyday, enjoying themselves, until one day, when Eilei was found dead. Her father, Maur, was a world leading expert in human genetics and cloning. Clinging for him lost daughter, Maur persuaded the King to capture hundreds of test subjects for him to perfect a genetic and DNA clone of Eilei. After two and a half years, Eye was captured. Now Eye's best friend, Jeai, has disguised himself as a scientist to save Eye from the Crystal Cryogenic Chambers.

FEATURES:
- A (what I think is) great story
- Uses the RTP and base engine (no extra scripts)
- New enemies
- Lots of dungeons and loot :)

Awesome Bro

Hello. I played your game and this is my review:

It needs some work.
Sound/Music:
You are using RTP everything, so this isn't going to help your cause at all. If it was supposed to reflect a futuristic setting, you should use something that reflects that instead of the default opening music. Sound effects should be altered to not split my ear open.

When you enter the "Love Tunnels" (I would most certainly change that name and the layout...but we'll get to that.) there is no background music. I guess that would be nice and realistic if you also had some sound effects going, like water dipping in the distance.

Intro/Story:
"Long ago, an evil King...."

This is a very cliched line to be using. It's fine since this is your first project, but a "deep and meaningful story" requires more than cliched rehashed plot lines.

Why did the King want these people to experiment on? Where is the motive and intrigue? Your a hero going to save a friend, but why was your friend taken? You explain it as "She is my daughter, that is why she is special." but that doesn't reveal what kind of experiments they would have to perform to get their data prior to killing their guinea pigs.

I like the idea of the hero dressing up too rescue his friend. That is somewhat original. Remember that everyone has already used these plots before.

And being 17 is still a kid.

Gameplay:

I hate that dungeon. It was boring and bland! Where is the life?? The enemies in there only hit for 1 hp, but your boss hit for 30-90+ against both characters. His dialog was weird. Are you a writer at all? Your grammar skills could use some work along with believable dialog for your characters.

Overall:

You've got some work too do!

Hope this helps flesh out some of the things you need to work on!

Hence the "Its ok because its your first game" line...

I wouldn't use an evil King. Future societies that support monarchies? weird

what, this does not refute my statement at all

I could make a million games and they could all start like that, the gameplay and depth is what makes a game what it is.

look at dragon quest

I have no intention to refute your statement but clarify that I said it was OK to use it, but being more imaginative would probably add depth too the story and wouldn't hurt at all.

You could make a million games like that, like dragon quest, but they lose value over time. Depth is derived from a good story. Gameplay keeps the player attentive to the events/story at hand. You would honestly play Dragon Quest's rehashed plot lines over and over again?

Why are we discussing this? Was my review not offering solid and constructive advice too a new game maker? If I remember I got the same line from members when I posted my first games here. Lets review his game and move on, not nitpick about other's reviews. Play the game and review it, not critique my comments please! :blank:

Let's help him make a good game, not see how other members can split hairs about semantics.
