Face needs to be redone, i drew it with my mouse, other than that critique is welcome.

it goes along with the animated battler in my avatar, main character of my game, took me about 4 hours to color after i scanned in an inked version of the rough pencil drawing i did thats floating somewhere in the art & graphics section somewhere, my drawing skills with a mouse i found out are sub-par, im gonna have to draw his face and scan it in so it doesnt look like a kindergarten crayon face lol.

this is my first digital coloring of a drawing, basicly what i did quite simply is this.

1) draw a pic, inked it, threw in subtle shading in key spots with a 20% gray prismacolor marker
2) using the smudge tool i used the spots where the prisma was and blended the shading to my liking, then adjusted the image levels to darken, re-smudge, rinse repeat until it looks right.
3) made an individual layer per color, set those layer's mode to multply, basily overlay colors on top of the shaded b&w pic, used 50% opacity with 35% flow on a brush tool, darkened areas that needed more color. get it to where you like it, clean up the edges.
4)toss up another layer for the highlights, i found that the layer mode "overlay" with a 12% opacity and 12% flow looked best in my case, clean it up and put on the finishing touches.

Looks preaty good...only he has way to many fingers...armor looks pale and not bright..it sorta("Just a tiny, smudge, bit, pinch, and a little...lets just say so small you can hardly see that it...") does not blend with the belt...eyes are smallish....rest is good!!

theres only 5 fingers, theres the top of a scabbard, which hasnt been colored yet, that his hand is resting on(between his thumb and index finger) so it looks like he might have a couple extra.

and as far as the armor, i didnt want it to be too shiny, i wanted it to look a tad tarnished, you know, from actually using it

yeah im gonna redo the whole face, the eye(yeah theres only 1) is too small and the nose and mouth are just plain retarded imo

Err' gonna bring the fingers up, I counted them, is it 6 fingers?
Also, the chest plate is... Pale... And the arms are more 'metally'.

Teehee, everything else is good, :)

yeah i colored my concept drawing of that character, the actual drawing was like a 20-30 minute scratch, i figured what better to learn to digitally color on than a sketch :), i probably wont actually end up using that one but i did learn some good do's and donts while working on it. seeing if i can get some critique on my coloring method.

5 fingers, for the record.

Updated with full size image at the top

i like it until u get to the face and hair then it just falls apart... put some more love into that face there man. Its just so tragically .... well poor.

oh, i know the face is trash, and i was going to go back and put some more depth into the hair with highlighting, since its so dark, its why i took off the face layer in the full size images, i dont want it to distract too much from what im actually wanting c&c on.

but fact is, im not going to use this picture for anything, i was just seeing how easy/hard it was going to be for me to digital color my drawings, this was an experimentive(<--not a word) learning process, next one should come out better, and probably faster than the first, will be a lot less going back to do things cause i did hem in the wrong order etc
