Orchestral Score and Anthem

Recently (being the past two to three months) I've finished two scores. One is an anthem which took me only a short time to finish, and the other is a piece for Full Orchestra and Choir. It was intended to be played by a High-School concert band, orchestra, and choir. Hence why I have also arranged the latter for concert band and choir, but that's another story.

The Anthem was written for a group I'm part of. Someone jokingly suggested I write an Anthem for the group...so...I did. It's a group of writers and authors, which I'm not very active in, but still correspond with.

Birth of a Republic, albeit preferring to use simple titles, is a score representing the Roman Empire. No real context, just the Empire in itself. Not necessarily its birth, although it can be viewed as such, but moreso the Empire as thought of throughout history. In essence, at its height. It's part of a much larger work that will hopefully span the entirety of history. This piece is the first part I've worked on. Technically, it is part of the Roman Movement (the seventh in the work), and the first Sub-Movement within. Part of me wishes to elongate the score one day, however the chances of that happening are slim.

I wanted other's opinions on this, especially musically educated opinions. Hence why I come here. = D
If you would be kind enough to listen to and give me an opinion on at least one of the scores, I'd be extremely grateful.

Enjoyed the anthem, liked the modern sounding fanfare. Any song I can actually picture myself going to orchestra to hear automatically gets thumbs up from me <3

As for the second. I like the fact that you chose to tell a story through music. All music should be made in this way in my opinion =D. As for the story itself, you're trying to depict an entire civilization and it's triumphs and tribulations (apologies if I misinterpreted your post) in a few short minutes and it shows. The emotions and thoughts that this song provokes (power, beauty, anger, delicateness, etc.) is very conflicting; there were just too many emotions at once. It was hard to know exactly what you were depicting at any point in the song. Your hearts definitely in the right place but I think you would do better to focus on more specific parts or events of the Empire if that is indeed what you're interested.

quite possibly the most perplexing comment on a musical piece in all of this forum. :dead:

seconded.

But uh, I like the anthem, I think the very high bit could be a bit slower though.

I'm not so keen on the other song, it seems to stop and halt too often -- like at the beginning, it builds up and then stops ubruptly.
