Oppinion on a website?

I'm trying to put together this website, that will be part webcomic part personal page.
The adress is: Sixtyandaquarter
and if I didn't do that right and it's not clickable here's the URL:
http://sixtyandaquarter.profusehost.net/

I would just like to know what anybody thought of the layout, and if they had any suggestions. I might add colors to the site, making the grey areas various colors.

The only thing is, I haven't finished the site, and before I really get into it I really just want oppinions on if the site looks good, not so much the content of the site. Some links may still be dead links, but as far as I know I've at least added a "nothing here" yet page to all links.

The banners at the top, and links under the big white boxes (free webhosting etc...) are obviously put there from profusehost, cause it's free and I can't afford a webhost that doesn't put banners on their site - nor do i have the time to do all the posting on forums that don't have banners heh.

Thank you.

Opinions. One p.

First thing's first. Don't use splash pages. The only reason to ever use a splash page is when you have content that might not be advisable for children under 18 and you want to put a warning- and even then it's stupid.

The layout itself is decent- not many people can pull off the grunge garbage and get away with it. Once you get a real host, I can say that the layout is decent and workable, but with them, it's just hideous because it clashes so much. If you're sticking with this hose, make the layout work with the ads.

It's also a bit TOO monochromatic. Spice it up with another single color used sparingly (ie. like red in Sin City).

Also, I don't want to have to click through a bunch of pages (disclaimers are pointless unless it's 18+, 13+ is a waste of time). You want it all to be EASY and QUICKLY ACCESSIBLE. Making stuff too complicated is a sure way to hinder success.

Good luck.

Edit: It's also very nice to see someone older than thirteen and with a full beard here. Welcome.

I'm getting rid of the Splash Page - i wasn't sure if I was going to keep it or not, but was leaning more towards nixing it anyway. Originally was going to have a warning, cause I was going to be liberal with my language - but I found out I could lose my site... heh... that's... crappy... I removed the warning there, but haven't gotten around to removing the whole splash page because i was a little indecisive.

Welp, I need the warning before the comic, only because the comic is going to have violence - and the host doesn't allow for most violence. I would change hosts, but I haven't found a good host that allows as many files types, as much space and etc without forum posting. It sucks, and I don't like it. But, yeah. If I find a better host I'd switch, and forget about the whole warning, I just don't want to lose the site.
I'm eventually going to add color, hinting at shades from subpage to subpage., the comic itself was black and white but with two edits i added a blue tint, i woudl be doing that with the page layouts, but not until after i have actual content ya know.

I was in the air about the monocrome look, but it seems some people i've showed think color would help. thanks alot!

I'm pretty sure most hosts take money!

I already stated I can't afford to pay for a website.
I have no financials really, no bank accounts, no credit cards, no nothing... not even a checking account... i don't even have health insurence.
The day I can afford to pay for a website, is the day after i can afford to go to the doctors for this nagging cough i've had for two months heh.

I like Grunge..and as Despain said you can basically go very wrong or very right with that style layout. I think you pulled it off well except yeah the ads look funny..but understand the not paying thing..been there...am there :P

I actually like splash pages..but that's just me..most people frown on them so you're better off doing without em.

Anyways nice start..I like it.

Possible new layout... ignore colours please unless you have something positive - the only reason I say that is because i'm really getting bored (not even tired, just bored) of people saying "gay" over and over again... my website, my color scheme, i'll do with it as i like heh..

you still have the original (but i'll go and skip the splash page - haven't updated old layout yet an drenamed the home to index, sorry)

http://sixtyandaquarter.profusehost.net/home.htm

and the possible new one, which works better in some aspects

http://sixtyandaquarter.profusehost.net/home2.htm

now... i believe the new layout may not work on all browsers, mainly lower versions of netscape - i tested it on my IE, Firefox, and AOL and it works (because it makes use of an IFrame), but I remember failing a class because I had to design a website to match all browsers... or at least GUI browsers...

also - no content but the "updates" (which actually has the wrong dates on it but is more up to date)... and a working sponser/ad... which is why i might just switch to this layout as it actually has working adspace, i set the first layout with the idea of doing ads but either i read things wrong or accidentally made the "boxes" for the adds to small... so i can't use that layout without a big alteration of images, which i'd do if people told me the old oen was better...
wow i'm talkative, think i'll finish this post and look to see what else there is to post about here heh, enjoy (or don't-up to you i guess)

If you desaturate the blue a bit and change the pink splash to something that stands out more, more like a black, it could be really cool.

But the use of frames, and having a mini-scrollbox inside a page, is always a bad thing.

the Iframe is the sponcer, i have no control over that, unless i chose a static one item (i'd have to chose it). For example, I reloaded the page a few times just to know what's in the anime section of the "store", and I'd have to do this:
Home/Updates would have 1 transformers poster
the comic would have a Naruto poster
if I finished character bios for comic in time it would have a Chobits poster
the links would have a Love Hina poster
and so on, which I would rather not do...

the scrollbar is not connected to the iframe, and is part of the table... the coding being:

webpage code said:
<div style="padding: 2px; padding-right: 5px; width: 100%; height: 371px; overflow: auto; overflow-y: scroll; color: #000000; font-family: Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 8pt; scrollbar-face-color:#496767; scrollbar-arrow-color:#FFFFFF; scrollbar-track-color:#D9DADC; scrollbar-shadow-color:#FFFFFF; scrollbar-highlight-color:#FFFFFF; scrollbar-3dlight-color:#496767; scrollbar-darkshadow-color:#496767;">(content)</div>

is it a bad idea because it wouldn't show up on some browsers, or is it just a bad idea all together? my html ability is limited, so i don't know compatabilities, and if it would alter the way the page looked with various settings - i had a page once that i didn't realize wouldn't display the menu unless you the viewer had javascript enabled, and such.

if i sound defensive, don't mean to be, just woke up with a head cold.

I wouldn't bother with changing the scrollbar as it will only display in IE.

About the Style attribute in the Div. If you plan to keep that same layout in every page. You might want to create an external CSS link to it. So it would be easier to update.

Oh. Well the Stuff inside your Div is a style attribute - which is CSS.
But it's good to learn CSS with HTML so you'll have a better appealing page and a bit customizable if you later change it.

Agreed- CSS kicks total ass. I didn't look at your source, but if what darkie says is true, you should take his advice and make the CSS an external sheet- trust me, it makes changing and updating infinitely easier.

Come on #hive sometime and I'll show you.
