Opinions on a dead pixel!

So I recently bought a pretty nice 720p HDTV. I've got to say, I adore this damned thing. In addition to that, I have 30 days basically to try it out from Circuit City, where I can take it back - no questions asked.

The problem? Well, like the title said, the tv has a single dead pixel. Dead as in it doesn't light up at all. Out of 921600 pixels, ONE is dead.

Now to be honest, it doesn't bother me much. My PSP has 2 stuck pixels side by side and I have lived with them for some time without it really getting too much on my nerves.

The problem is that sometimes I notice it. When the screen is lit up bright it stands out quite a bit. I could live with it yes, but I wanted to get your opinion -

Should I take it back, and have it replaced in hopes of getting one with no dead pixels?

It depends on how long you've had it, but most warranties will only cover if there are more than X amount of dead pixels...double check with the store and the manufacturer.

I know sony won't touch a PSP with dead pixels unless there are 5 or more dead.

Circuit City has a 30-day no questions asked return policy, and I haven't even had the thing a week. I COULD get it replaced with a brand new TV. Gosh I don't know why this is bothering me so much - it took me 5 days to even notice it!

Because now that you noticed it, it drives you MAD!

Our 46" Widescreen HD Projection TV is great...except my wife always put on the black (It was standard gray) bars on the sides when watching normal TV of pan and scan (bleh) movies. The result? After only a few months, the burn in is different. On darker shows and games you can't notice it, but on White or light, you can see the TV area is bright white, and the sides are an off color. So knowing it's there bugs the hell outta me...

I'd say if you can live with it, cool. But know it MAY lead to further dead pixels.

If you can get a new TV or a replacement for no extra cost, get a new one. That would bug the hell out of me once I knew it was there. Trust me; if you don't take the oppertunity to get a replacement now, you'll go insane and kill someone later, wind up in jail, and end up getting prison raped by some big dude named "Bubba."

Awesome Bro

I can relate to dead pixels, and strangely enough my first PSP also had a few lingering around the display. They can be terribly frustrating once found ... and Can bother the hell out of you despite how petty it may seem.

To be honest with you though, You've paid all that money for a product that at the end of the day has a fault. It may only be 1 pixel out of 921600 but it's still a fault.

I personally would return it and DEMAND a new one.

I'm currently waiting on a 20.1" Viewsonic LCD monitor to arrive. And believe me, If it isn't out-standing It's getting returned.

Well, it seems VERY hard to notice, but if it bugs you that much, get a new one. Maybe spend a few more bucks and get an even better one. But if that's out of the question, then just replace it.

If you can return it, no questions asked, and get another, why not? It all comes down to whether you care enough to go there, and come back again, for one pixel ^_^

Take it back. Your going to notice it later on and kick yourself for not returning it. I had the same problem with my DS. Nintendo replaced mine for one dead pixel.

Return it. If there's one dead pixel, others may follow in a few weeks =) You payed for 921600 pixels, NOT 921599 DAMNIT!!!

Return it for sure. That dead pixel would cross my attention over and over again until I went nuts and destroyed the world or something. But seriously, get what you paid for and return it for a new one.

I was under the impression that there were dead pixels on my Laptop screen. Two white pixels to be exact. However I noticed shortly after that when I moused over them, I got a scroll bar icon (as if I was holding down the middle mouse button on FireFox) which is totally whack. Found out later it was a virus!

Regarding your problem, I'd replace the TV if you haven't already.

If you can replace your TV, then I advice you to do so.
In fact, in most of the time, if you have less than X percents of dead pixels,
you won't be able to get your TV changed. (Depends on the company though)
Unless the dead pixels are, for example, grouped on one spot, making it annoying to watch TV.

I don't know the mark of your TV but I guess you'd like to know that screens made by LG/Philips usually come with one-two (or more) dead pixels.

I think that the best LCD screens are Samsung's. I'm not talking about the whole TV, I'm just talking about the screens themselves.
