OpenOffice.org problem

I'm working in OpenOffice Writer, and all of a sudden I can't type in normal text after italicized text.. If I copy from earlier in the document, italicize that, than remove Italics, that fixes it, until the next time I need italics, then I have to do the same thing.

Do you have your default formatting altered in any way? If not, check up top in your toolbar to see if you're on a different formatting than "Default".

My default formatting is unchanged, and I'm using default formatting.

That's very interesting. Does a reinstall change it?

The only thing I can recommend is to always pick up the older stable builds over newer beta versions when getting open-source software if the bugs are going to be crippling. I have run into bugs pretty frequently in Windows OO, mostly using the database software, and for the most part I stay away from it now because I can't risk losing work to it.

I don't use WYSIWYG text editors though, I prefer to write my documents in XHTML and style them with CSS over using clumsy point-and-click tools, so I haven't spent much time with Write. Have you tried checking out the official forums? There's almost always going to be someone else that has had your problem and they may have a solution, a workaround, or at least news that it's going to get fixed soon.
