so my internet up here is really slow and there's really no way to change that. it's an old building, retrofitted, an apartment complex built on an old hospital, and they've routed all the various network cables through what seems to be one huge bottleneck. the entire building (or is it the block? idr) has bandwidth problems, and not a lot is gonna change that. so I'm looking for alternatives.

the first obvious alternative is satellite internet, but that thing has hella latency from what I've heard. I'd like to avoid high latency if this is true

the second alternative is a wireless connect card. I think I'm in the rogers 3G network area, and I think I'll have enough to pay for a rogers rocket card. their purported connection speed is higher than what I get on this thing, for sure, although it's still pretty weak (about seven mbps)

here's where you guys come in. tell me about these two things. if you got anything you think is better, please share. etc.

You know, we get internet through our cable company. I'm not sure if that's an option for you, but a lot of cable companies do offer internet access as part of certain packages. Usually better than satellite, definitely better than dialup or bottlenecked cables, and probably better than a 3G network.

I'm already getting internet through my cable company. that is precisely part of the problem.

I'm not 100% on the technical aspect of the problem, but the functional reality is that as the situation stands, my internet is being slowed to a crazy extent by high traffic, bottlenecking, hospital ghosts, whatever, and this is a problem for everyone in the associated era, so switching to a different cable company isn't an option.

Well, if there's not many other options, I'd say use the 3G network card. I can only get 11 mb/s on my roadrunner half the time and it's fast enough, so why is 7mb/s so bad?

right now the point of this topic is just finding out more about the options. I'm never really confident in my ability to make an informed decision, so I just made this so someone could jump in and go "heh........mawk it looks like you' once again you're missing the simple solution"

Yeah, but I can't really think of much else. If you can't switch cable companies(to roadrunner like me  )and you don't want satellite internet, and you don't like 7mb/s then I can't help you much...
