NPC Limit Before Lag? (Quick And Easy Question)

I'm just curious as to how many NPC's I can have roaming about the map before the game starts to get laggy. Note that the majority of these NPC's will be set on a Custom Route to "Move Towards Player" (They are all zombies and will trigger a battle if they touch the player).

Anybody have any numbers from past experience?

RMXP is based on software rendering. What lags events really are all the sprites on screen not so much the instructions that are carried out. Because of that reason it depends on the platform it is played on. There is no set number I guess is what I'm trying to say.
 
The platform? Do you mean by it'll depend on who's computer its being played on? Mine isnt anything AMAZING, so if it runs on mine it should run on others too... I just dont want to build a game and then have people complain that its too laggy for them.
