No BGM/ME In RMXP+RMVX

Hi guys, up until recently my RPG Maker XP has been working fine, but suddenly i can no longer hear any BGM or ME in RMXP or the RMVX trial. Yet i can hear midi with WinAMP and Windows Media player so i know for sure it's not my windows device.

I've searched everywhere and cannot find a solution. Reinstalling windows is not an option, as i said, Midi works fine in any program other than the RPG maker XP and VX. I can't even preview the music in the editor, i press play and nothing happens.

From what i recall, BGM and ME used to work, but i recently installed the RMVX trial and now i'm getting this problem. I've tried uninstalling both RMXP and RMVX trial and reinstalling RMXP etc. But it doesn't fix the problem.

I've updated my sound drivers, made sure the midi interface is set to Microsoft GS Wavetable, made sure my SW Synth volume is up and not muted. But still not working.

Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

(System restore is also not an option, i don't have it enabled)

That's a bit weird... recently, my mp3's stopped working, but that was only because a codec got uninstalled. Could you try it on a different computer? If it works, then you'll know it's just yours that's messed up.

Hi guys, it works fine on my laptop, but for some strange reason i can't get it to work. It's driving me insane, i paid good money for RPG Maker XP and i can't even use it's full functionality, i won't be dishing out more money for VX if i can't play even simple midi.

It's strange, it used to work in RPG Maker XP, then suddenly, as far as i know, it stopped after i installed the VX trial.

I really can't resort to a system restore or reinstalling Windows XP over a silly midi problem, when midi works fine with any program other than the RMXP and RMVX trial.

Well, if it works fine on your laptop, I'm guessing it's just your computer that has the problem (if I'm understanding you correctly). So unless it REALLY bugs you, like you can't hear music while beta-testing, it'll be fine on other people's computers.

I've done a "search and destroy" mission to try track down the problem, i've cleared the registry of all Enterbrain RMXP + RMVX Trial items. Cleared the application data. Uninstalled both RMXP and RMVX trial, reinstalled etc.

Still no look. This is really frustrating me, i'm thinking that maybe my download of RMVX trial installed a corrupt dll or something which RMXP and RMVX both use for midi. Which has stopped midi from being played. This is just a suspicion though. I'm trying to find out what files are installed with XP and VX to see if ican track down the route of my problem.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem! I think it has something to do with Windows Vista though. I just received a new computer with vista on it and transferred all my files from my XP computer. Suddenly, RPG maker XP and my new trial version of VX won't play sound of any kind! In fact, XP crashes whenever I try to play sounds. Plz, plz, plz, someone help with a solution... I'm not the greatest with scripting and I'm new to vista so I have no idea how to go about repairing this issue...

Okay...

*copies and pastes this message from the hundreds of others that I have written*

This USUALLY solves the problem.  It has for everyone who has ever had it anyways.

Go to Microsoft.com and download the latest version of Direct X that is compatible with your operating system (I think 9c is the one you want, unless they recently came out with a new one ^_^)

Download Dirext X and install it.  After that, shut down your computer, turn it back on and voila!  it should be fixed.

For some reason that comes up with a lot of people.  It has only happened to me once, but I knew how to fix it and it worked (w00t!!1!)

There, I hope that helps.

(also, just as a side question... is there no sound in RMXP, or is there just no MUSIC?  (ie, there are sound effects but no music)

It fixed RPG maker VX, but now XP is giving me the "Failed to obtain a trial serial number from the nTitles server." error. And yes, there was no sound at all on both xp and vx.

that fixed the editors?

Good ^_^

The reason it ways that it cant obtain a serial number is because that computer is not connected to the internet, or that program is firewalled (so that it cant get through to the internet)

Make sure your internet is working, and if it still gives you the problem, check the windows firewall and turn it off for a little bit.
