New Watchmen Trailer

If you've been paying attention to the coming 'The Watchmen' movie, you've already seen the one with the song by the Smashing Pumpkins, but I just found a different one, and I'm quite literally crapping my pants over this.

http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/wa ... re-trailer

I never get that excited about coming movies, but this is amazing. The scenes in the trailers are, like, S-T-R-A-I-G-H-T out of the graphic novel. AAAAAGGGHHGHGHGHG FUCCKCKCKC I can't wait for 3-6-09 @_@

anyway just thought i'd share for any fellow Watchmen fans.

If you haven't read the graphic novel, you MUST. And if you have, but not in a while, read it again. It's only 12 issues and the issues aren't terribly long, so really you're doing yourself a disservice by not reading em. You can find the scans on the internet pretty easy.

I'm just pooping myself because this movie looks like a DIRECT adaptation which is what I've always hoped for <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I'm amazed how faithful to the original these trailers look(aside from non-spandex costumes, but noone wants that). I can more-or-less pinpoint the exact panels that these scenes came from, which is terrific. I'm usually not all "MUST BE JUST LIKE BOOK >(" about movie adaptations of comics or books, but Watchmen is so perfect that straying far from the original would make me start rampaging.

I wonder how much stuff they're actually gonna be able to shove into the movie, though. I'm sure there'll be quite a bit of stuff left out, but I hope it's not too much ;-;
It'll probably really fucking long like The Dark Knight, or something, heh.

I keep hearing rumors that they're gonna change the ending, though-- not from any reliable sourced that I know of, just so you know, but I actually think that it makes sense that they'd at least consider it. I mean, if you're going to take huge liberties with the source material somewhere, why not make it the ending, which as we all know, isn't exactly the Hollywood-esque happy ending with laughter and friendly chipmunks dancing to the beat of "Over the Rainbow". I just hope that it's another unfounded rumor started by some idiot. :(

SPOILERS:

supposedly they changed the ending but without actually changing it. in other words they changed the means but kept the story intact. for the sake of keeping the storyline condensed into the movielength time frame, they had to drop the MUYSTERIOUS ISLAND WITH PSYCHICS AND SCIFINOVELISTS AND ALIEN TELEPORTING THING and just changed it to a nuclear bomb or something. it's UNDERSTANDABLE and as long as they keep the ENDING ITSELF the same then it won't be too big of a deal if something like that is changed for undetstandable reasons.

They're probably going to ignore all that stuff about the comic book author guy, and his little black reader, and the newspaper vendor.

And they will probably also ignore Dr. Manhattan's first girlfriend, who he dumped for Laurie Juspeczyk, and that whole tryst deal. And maybe Ozymandias killing off his closest staff, or Dr. Manhattan smiling down on Nite Owl and Laurie while they do it.

I also don't see the Comedian's large disfiguring scar, so they will likely wash over how he got it (from the lady in vietnam he impregnated and killed after she sliced him with a bottle).

They might even gloss over Nite Owl I's death.

I'm just hoping they don't ignore or delete the Comedian's attempted rape on Silk Sceptre (I). That shit is important.

And I also hope they don't overwrite the ending though I admit it may be difficult to adapt the representation of the gigantic amorphous monster being transported through time and space then exploding New York.

oh. Well you know actually of all the things to change, I think I'd be the most okay with that. Just so long as it doesn't affect the character development in any way (I don't see why it would).

i'm not mad keen on Snyder's style. it's a shame because i really admire his passion for this project and faithfulness but the slow-mo, big close ups, super glossy stylised look irritates me loads. i mean i understand it is his style but idk, just seems like it'll grate on me after a while

possible spoilers although this doesn't really spoil anything

glad they're getting rid of the squid though, that would not translate well onto screen. the only concern is that he is being a bit too faithful for this, comics and cinema are different artforms completely, and so i hope he has changed enough for it in terms of restructuring the narrative to make coherent sense to an audience unfamiliar with the comics, otherwise it'll just be a big confusing mess

bernie and bernie are going to be in the movie. at least they are going to be shown. i've seen a screenshot of them and got so fucking excited. if they take out them then it won't be watchmen anymore. they are just as important as the superhero characters imo

also faggots did you forget what the spoiler tag was for? here's a hint: we didn't add it so people could organize their project topics.

Scar is there.  Watch Spike Award Clip below.

You folks should also take a look at the production diaries they've been making.  A lot of interesting stuff.

My guess is Hooded Justice's disappearance, Mothman's alcoholism, and any of the other minor superheroes  will get a lot less play. A small reference no scenes devoted to it.  Instead they'll focus the nostalgic moments on the other major characters actually involved in the action.

Who wants to bet that when all is said and done, after Watchmen leaves theaters, it's rated as being worse on imdb.com than the Dark Knight despite likely (though its presumptuous to assume) being a better movie.

sorry i didn't think mentioning shit in a comic which has been out for over 20 years would be a spoiler to anyone :/

I didn't notice that scar at first. It's not in the right place, it's supposed to disfigure his lips, but I guess I can understand why hollywood'd keep an actor looking pretty. plus it's probably easier to depict a gash than a split lip.

And yeah the "old" superheroes will likely only get a few clips, maybe a VO mention from Nite Owl I.

Fuck man Dr. Manhattan and Rorshach look so freaking badass.
I'm guessing they'll subtly remove Manhattan's man-junk, though. In the comic he runs around anatomically correct, but in the movie he'll probably be like a Ken doll. Which I guess I don't really mind; it's hard to take a guy seriously when his doodads are flopping around.

I think Ozymandias is the only one who looks starkly different. I guess they went less 80's neon/garishness, and did more of a grey+black evilguy affair.

ACTUALLY, in the same vein,
I read [on wikipedia] that the subplot of the pirate comic may actually be an animated miniseries slated to be released shortly after the movie. Then, the DVD may splice in scenes from that miniseries in the extended edition.
I think that'd be pretty cool.

The origins of the music for the original trailer intrigues me, but bodes ominously for our heroes.

That's "The End Is the Beginning Is the End".
The music from the Trailer is "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" (which is better).

edit: oh that's probably what you mean by "origins" lol

I think the Beginning is the End is the Beginning fits best with the characters, the muse song, not so much.

Still if the guy who pieced together these clips and sound was the director, i'm going to love this movie too much.

I typically only go for classic rock, but I've always liked the Smashing Pumpkins and mostly I like Muse, too (though I've heard their covers are better ... I think whoever WRITES their music is better than the band itself). And yes I agree that the SP song fits the trailer very well, better than Take A Bow. Especially since they cut it to hell (and didn't do a very good job either).

I hate getting hyped about stuff because I'm always disappointed, but I am so incredibly impressed by the trailers, all I can do is get my hopes up. I mean I can pinpoint EXACT panels from nearly every trailer clip. Maybe more film adaptations will take a page from this, and stay truer to their origins, too. Maybe we'll finally see something that you can walk away from and say, "You know... I liked that as much as the book."

I usually hate products that try to recreate the essence of the previous media it came in. It's pointless mostly because if I wanted to read Watchmen exactly like how it was in the book I'd read the book, no point in seeing the movie because only rarely is a cross-platform production of anything better than the original.

I prefer it if materials encapsulate what makes their genre great and implement that with the story, but rarely is that ever done because it takes "effort"(c) A faithful recreation is an easy way to please fans and alienate potential fans. That said I am the only one in my group of friends who can't wait to see this movie.
