New obligatory Tales of thread

So yeah, with Tales of the World on the horizon, I thought now would be a good time to reopen this topic. This is for the discussion of the various Tales of games in the series, from Destiny, to World. Also, I'm using this as a basis of a rumour I found that Namdai may INFACT be bringing the Destiny Remake for the PS2, along with Destiny 2 for the PSP over to America. No confirmation yet, but there's a lot of hints pointing to it (i.e:Namdai gave out a survey to everyone subcribed to their newsletter asking what they liked about the Tales series and if they wanted to see more.)

Also use this to discuss which major platform the series will be taking, and which name they will be using for it.

I kinda like the tales games. Tales of Symphonia was just TOOOO damn long, though. I'm playing tales of Eternia at the moment (on hard, first time through), and it's actually been challenging and fun enough to keep my interest for a few hours (which is more than i can say for msot other RPGs i've tried in the last few years).

I guess a few new ones would be cool.

I enjoyed ToW3 for GBA, so this will sound fun as well. I It actually lies in my hopes that they'll port Eternia to PSP in English, as I know it's available for the PSP in Japanese.

Well, technically, Tales of Eternia IS on the PSP in English. You just have to import it from Europe. Which is basically OUR english version for the PS with, i am assuming, some added stuff? Never really looked into it... i really need to get some money to buy it though...

Oh, and it should work perfectly fine since there is no region coding on the PSP, so imports work with no problem.

EDIT: And I am hoping for the ToD remake for the PS2 and ToD2 for the PSP! Oh! And ToP:FVE for the PSP. That would please me greatly~

Totally. Been playing all freakin' day! This game rawks my socks!

I just wonder how grade factors into the end of the game... i heard something about them adding a grade shop. But if thats so, than it really sucks that I have to spend grade on these other classes!

I love how the battle music changes depending on what Tales characters you have. The battle system is also much like TotA, which had my favorite battle system; but a lot easier, because you dont have to hold down any button to run around.

Oh! And my most FAVORITE feature is how your outfit changes depending on what equipment you have on. I love dressing up my little Esther! She's so cute, mwahaha... I plan to buy one of every armor and weapon so that by the end of th egame, i can just have fun dressing her up!

I played ToS for a while, but it just felt... boring? I dunno, the voice acting was horrible, the visual design was below average and boring and the characters were pretty much your common JRPG-stereotypes.

Symphonia wasn't bad. Abyss is like... just worlds better so you should give it a shot.

Wow i might ACTUALLY use my psp for this, since i haven't really had any reason to touch it in .. .. months. Close to a year or more? ... When did Mega man Powered up come out?

And you have Kingdom Hearts in your avatar...

Edit:Oh, and btw, this is how I'd rate the characters on usefulness so far...

Reid:8/10 (He'd receive a 10, but his regular attacks are slow and he doesn't have many Artes at all)
Chester:2/10 (I only use him when needed. He's incredibly weak)
Lloyd:1/10 (Controlling him, he's slow. As for his A.I, he's incredibly dumb.)
Kratos:10/10 (They basically took his Artes, made them faster, and made his agility WAY higher. He's awesome to use.)
Arche:6/10 (She's alright. She gets points for being able to fly, but other then that, Tear and Rutee are WAY better.)
Genis:6/10 (See Arche)
Raine:4/10 (Weakest of the healers you get, though she gets points for having Photon right off the bat)
Stahn:9/10 (Other then his weird normal attacks, Stahn is pretty good. His english VA is pretty killer as well)
Rutee:9/10 (Your first GOOD healer. This is mainly cause she's actually a Thief, so she has higher agility and more HP. Her TP isn't quite as good, but she makes up for it in her melee moves.)
Leon:10/10 (Pure awesome. He attacks quickly, with many hits per move which do only a little less then my Thief at lvl 27)

I'll add more as I see fit.

Hey, Dooples, what do you think the best class is? I started as a Thief, but then i spent some time leveling up my Swordsman. I havent really tried out the other classes, but Thief seems to be the best. I am beginning to wonder why i even spent GP to get Swordsman...

From those I've spoken to, and my own personal opinion; i say, if you love Tales games, you'll love this. I think its a GREAT buy for the PSP. Though, i could be a bit biased...

The battle system is addicting as always with lots to do and lots of equipment to buy to dress up your character!

Not to mention its supposed to be a decent lengthed game with lots of replay value!

i got ToW... The only disappointment is that I coulsn't put it on hard mode. D: I'm guessing you gotta beat the game first. I only really played it for like 2 hours... and have been maintenance-ing my psp since... but I LOOOVE the music in the foot of the great tree.

also, lloyd was a freakin pushover. =p

Lloyd sucks. Wait til you duel Leon though. He's the TRUE master of dual wielding.

btw, I found my first three irks with the game, and they all happened in the final quarter. 1st...

Senel's Attacking Voice:It sounds like he's burping, nuff said.
Luke's Attacking Voice:See Senel's Attacking Voice.
Senel's Battle Music:Dear god, they made it into a horrible MIDI sounding version, which is unacceptable.

Also, I can't tell, but is Senel's VA the same one used in ToL?

up until now, i've worked my way through the missions pretty easily.. but for some reason i'm having a really hard time with this one. I'm only a few hours through the game, they want me to fight a 'night raid'. Actually, it's more like 3 of em, and i do close to NO damage to them, whilst they hit all of my team for nearly 1/4th of their lifebars. Is there something i don't know about or something?

@Dopples: This is reguarding something I read on another forum... have you heard anything about it?

PS2 "Tales of Destiny Director's Cut"

PSP "Tales of Rebirth"
Early 2008

Wii "Tales of Symphonia: Ratatosk no Kishi"
Spring 2008
ToS sequel yo. Different artist though. Character designs - http://pics.livejournal.com/maiki/pic/0007zhef

EDIT:
With the above, what is this Directors Cut?? If we dont recieve it, I will be PISSED. I mean, first a full blown remake for the PS2, then a Directors cut? It almost sounds like the Japanese are laughing at us! So they better port it over here!

Also tales of rebirth, simply because thats one tales game i havent played yet!

And I wonder what this ToS sequal is going to be like. I mean, hard to imagine it on the Wii...

On Tales of Innocence:I wouldn't be surprised. While Tempest sucked, Namdai still loves the DS and hopes to make more games for it.

Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut: I have trouble believing it, but ok. I guess the only thing I can think they'd do is add Lilith to cutscenes, add more skits, and possibly add a more potent ToD2 presence.

Tales of Rebirth:I totally expected this.

ToS sequel:You're talking about the movie, right? Cause the poster on the right is Tales of Fandom Vol. 2. As for ToS2, make sure Lloyd or any of the other characters aren't in it, make the battle system less confusing, and make a GOOD story, then I'll play it.

On the subject of sequels, I heard somewhere that Sword of Legendia is infact connected to ToL. Pretty sweet.

BTW, rest of the character ratings:

Senel: 9/10 (He's a great fighter. He's quick, he's powerful, and can pull off some MAJOR combos. His only weakness is that he's not very good defense wise.)
Luke: 10/10 (He's my new favorite. His artes do great dmg, and his attacks are pretty quick too. He's also one of the few characters to keep his original VA.)
Tear: 10/10 (Best mage in the game. She has high TP, her magic attacks do good dmg, and she has melee skills to boot. She's pretty much like Rutee, execpt she focuses on magic more then melee.)
