New At Art.

I've been drawing for about a week and a half now (So be gentle.). I like to color more than I like to draw which is evident in my pictures...., but I am improving both. My style is cutesy anime so don't make comment on the non-realism.... I don't like drawing much anything else, but I do experiment.

I will post my latest few....

Here I am practicing making crisp line art, because I will be animating soon. I start my sketch animations next week.

This is a character from the game I work on, in the style/proportions of that game specifically. Right now I am choosing colors and coloring it. This is also the style I like to draw in the very best. Well I just adore cute things!

The game will look something like this test sketch, so I think these styles work nice together.

Lastly, this is my progress on a gift for my girlfriend. A self portrait in the style of Bleach. I know the background looks bad right now but this is because I like to paint under the shapes and objects and the lighting some before I paint the final pieces on top....

To see my "older" art, you can visit my Deviant Art page. There is not much there because I'm new....But I will post wip, sketches, and finished things there first each time.

Hi.
First off, you pick some really nice colors and in terms of color schemes you are pretty good.

But. Hirei is right, anatomically it is not correct. It does not look stylized, it looks incorrect. Its an excuse to say "well its my style so Im going to leave it be". In order to have a nice style, you have to compensate and skew other features in order for it to look correct. Because you are not consistently skewing other body parts, it looks like your incorrectly mapped out your person and made an attempt to do realistic features but then never made it. This translate into a lot of your drawings. It doesn't look like you on purposely made it that way, it looks like you made a mistake and that isnt style. Again, consistently skewing features to compensate one another is what style really is especially in humans and their anatomy. Im all for the anime/manga style but you gotta do it right~

Its cool that you are playing around and stuff, I would just seriously consider studying some more anatomy and then breaking it down and skewing to make it look correct.

I appreciate the nice lineart though
and I like the painted background but its sharp in some areas and blurry in others

Your painting is a bit smeary in glasses guy. Try using a more solid brush with a better opacity it will look terrible at first but as you build on it the foundation and core will get tons better.

I'm keeping FragmentRonan's style for the game, proportions and all. Ahahaha. I like the style best, I think and I get paid well for it. I'm not done yet on the painting. I've got a long way to go.... But it will be done eventually. I'm just having to do my paid work to meet deadlines in the between.

My style is cutesy anime so don't make comment on the non-realism.... I don't like drawing much anything else, but I do experiment.
again, its great you do cutesy anime but
as mawk said in the other thread back at the other site cubism had a strong sense of proportion and was skewed to convey mood and perspective. It was done on purpose!

If you want to do cutesy anime then you gotta learn how to compensate features and skew them so they look right
right now you are throwing mistakes on a canvas and calling them style when in reality you just dont have a basic grip on anatomy
which isnt bad but if you want to progress as an artist this is a roadblock you need to overcome

this board is for the sole purpose of improvement and critique and we strongly recommend criticism and critiques from all members~

Also you are new at art this is just some serious recommendations from people who have drawn and learned from some great artists/are great artists~

You will get some seriously helpful tips I really suggest that you take them into consideration because some of these people are legit professionals!!!!

Anyways good luck on your art endeavors i would love to see some improvement or at least some basic anatomy sketches or whatever~

No, I'm taking a style that FragmentRonan wants and asks for. It has nothing to do with me.... He drew the sprite the way and the sketch the way he wants it to be, and I have to make characters based on that. I don't really have a say so (I just adopted Fragments style as my favorite because I happen to like how it looks and it is fun to draw in), it is his game and I just work on it, and other people really like it too, as I do. So my hands are tied in the way of making art for that particular game. If you want to not like it or not play it based on characters proportions of this game, this is your choice, but it was not a mistake in the way I drew, it is drawn that way on purpose because that is the proportions he wants in his game....I just happen to like it like so many other people do. I can't go "fixing" his style he tells me how to draw based on what looks more like a natural human or what some random person likes better. I'm given a list and told what needs drawing and how and I do it.... But some of my pieces aren't Fragments style. And I've sketched a few more proportional-ish pieces on my own, but I still like the style he made me use better.... Maybe its just how it makes a character look to me; It is very pleasing to my eyes. I'm not sure why I like it so much; I think it is because it is somewhat of chibi and somewhat of normal sized manga but neither.... But I will draw some "natural" proportional sketches and things too I guess, just to show you its not me not trying to study proportions and "making mistakes". It is only frustrating because I don't draw this way because I have to draw this way in a habit; I draw this way because I like the proportions how they are here in comparison to other styles that I know and appreciate and because that is the style, not mistake, the style of the game, how he wants it to be and I can't change that nor would I want to. So its not that I don't like criticism, but its that I like the style this way, and most people/followers of the game like it this way, and my boss wants it this way, so hearing about this particular style changing to something more natural over and over again, really does nothing constructive for me. Fragments style reminds me of a few JRPG games I really enjoy, too.... Maybe that's why I like it. I don't really know. And for the record, I don't want to be professional at art either. That is what I have writing for, which is my main job, though I'm thinking about getting into the sciences. Art is just a fun side hobby. And as long as MOST people like my art, which they do, I'm happy, no matter what the style is. :)

it looks very good :thumb:
dont take in what other ppl say to heart that much, they usually just open their mouth cuz they can
calm down

dont type in bold

edit

on top of that you should try and branch out more. sticking to anime will seriously cripple you if you try and pursue anything beyond that. try drawing from life or photo references.

You are definitely off to a good start, if these are your first drawings.

I remember drawing in what? Stick figures? My first piece of art was using my school picture as reference. Lols. (OMG, not anime - no wai!). Man it was horrible. o.o

I forgot, I was going to show some of my earlier works.

But anyhooooooo.

Hmm... You do seem to suffer from big-head-syndrome. I do too, actually. So does my fiance, but he claims to do it on purpose. I love his art, but man, I hate his big heads. XD

I keep rambling, sorry about that. So you say you're just obeying orders from the team and doing the style they want? Do you have any examples of artwork of personal drawings?

for ppl who have negative saying about @ugaki style, present ur critique/comment on making it better instead of flaming it.
u think just cuz u can, u can flame other ppl as much as u want? u are better than that.
is this whats called intelligent @mother gloria? i guess u also have amazing talent in art that u can mock other ppl as u do? i wonder how much intelligent/skill u have wow im jealous.

Well you guys haven't really helped much...

Anyways, I think the first one is the one I'll be able to help with the most. Although I don't like the 2nd ones proportioning, but I guess there isn't much you can do about that at the moment...
The first drawing is really nice, and the proportioning of the body makes me wish I were you. But when you get to the face, the lines become harder (the eyes and nose) and don't seem to fit into the drawing, as I'm not really sure how to fix it, but the face, and especially the eyes seems to be a bit big for the head size.
The body is, again, wonderful, which kind of makes the hair parts, on the head and the tail seem a bit flat.
Overall I love your work, and it's about the best I've ever seen for someone starting out, the clothing looks professional and I'm guessing you're taking hardcore classes for it? Wonderful work, and I hope to see more, your work has actually gotten me to post here, from looking in the sketch thread, after a long time.
