Need your opinion on selling something ...

Hey guys,

After having my MAC for around 2 years, I've come to the decision that it's no longer needed.

I've found an interested buyer and I asked for ?280 ($565) but i really don't know WHAT to ask for. I said ?280 because i paid ?700 ($1400) for it brand new, and that was only 2 years ago.

MAC's have a tendency to hold their value as they maintain themselves well, and keep themselves free of viruses etc. Or maybe it's because most of the world are metrosexuals, who knows!?

Anyway, your thoughts? I just don't want to be ripped off and i don't want the same to happen to my buyer.

You can still sell classic OS9 running G3s for 700 pounds, and that's just ridiculous, so you could probably sell a G4 PPC for over it's original price. Try to sell it for as high as you can and you'll most likely get a buy.
Personally I'd sell it for 600, 280 is waaaaaaaay too low for a Mac.

They seem to be selling for right around that price on eBay, and around the net for $500-1000. I would say you're in the low end of the right price range.

Ok ... my thoughts have changed on this, especially since you think they sell high at a used condition.

Can you give me some sort of price that YOU would try and sell it for? That would be great

All I could say is, my sister was trying to sell her old G3 iBook, it was the worst kind of G3 iBook there was, she got it for 600 pounds, when she was selling it someone offered to buy it for 500 pounds, that's 83% of it's original price.
So you should sell yours at around 580 pounds.

How much the guts of a blue G3 are worth i want to keep the case and monitor to make a pc (yes im a genius :D)

Not a bad idea, actually. You've got the image of a mac user but the brains of a PC. Are you a model or one of those people that wears blazers with jeans?

@Kip, I got a blue G3 running back home :D Second hand, well about 4th hand, I thought: Sexy piece of hardware! When I ran it I had to install OS8 in parralel because it really wasn't built for OSX Runs too slow. Guts I would think aren't worth anything without the case. It was the case that made those classic iMacs so successful. Remodeled the face of computers.

@$t3v0: I used macs before pc's, when I saw a PC for the first time I was impressed by the extra mouse button, it was like a whole new world was opening for me :D I used to have a Performa running OS9, started from 7.5.5 and went right through to 9, I did try to constantly update it but it just wasnt able to keep up with modern software.
Model Mac compared to the blazer wearing PCs? Hehe, just like the new mac adverts I am a Mac book Pro, powerful, with the ability to run a PC or Linux. Brains of a PC user? Insult!
