Avant Window Navigator
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well To Show that i have knowledge of Ubuntu im going to teach you people on RMXP.ORG about AWN.
For Starters AWN is a mac like dock bar for Ubuntu and Other Linux Distros.
AWN Comes Standerd With Ubuntu Ultimate 1.9 and 1.8 but there are no applets available so if you would like to have applets like: The Weather, Comics ETC you would want to add this to your Sources List    But how do you do that? Well You Open up your menu in the system section then to administrator then above Synaptic Package Manager there is Software Sources :) open it up then goto Third Party Sources :S (Sorry dont know the tab name mental block ) and add these 2 lines in

deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42 gutsy avant-window-navigator
deb-src http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42 gutsy avant-window-navigator

Then Click Quit and then a message will come up saying do you want to reload and you click yes.
Afterwards open synaptic and search for AWN and if nothing comes up i didnt do this right but if you really want AWN You Can Download These Debs

:) Have fun with AWN :)

Elisa
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok Since Im Editing My Topic I May As Well include a little media center called elisa its for Windows, Mac OS X and of Course Ubuntu!!!!
And this is how one would get it

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 Import the GPG Key:

Import the GPG key:

wget http://elisa.fluendo.com/packages/philn.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add -
(of course its done in terminal)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 2 The Repository:

For Gutsy Gibbon
(Supported architectures are: i386, amd64, lpia)

Open up Software sources and add this line

deb http://elisa.fluendo.com/packages gutsy main

For Hardy Heron
(Supported architectures are: i386, amd64, lpia)

Open up Software sources and add this line

deb http://elisa.fluendo.com/packages hardy main

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 3 Installing Elisa:

Once all that is done open a terminal and run:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install elisa

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy and please post if you want anything done or need help with anything involving ubuntu

Bumb
Don't bump your thread unless you're adding something to it. Also, I'm not really anal about doubleposting here if you're adding new info but it's preferable to either edit it into a previous post or start a new thread. ~N

You should be able to add sources to apt at the command line using the following:
Code:
sudo echo 'deb http://www.somerepository.net/path/to/repository /' >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/yourdomain.sources.list

Replacing the URL with the url of the repository (but leave the 'deb' on the front).

You can also add it directly to the main sources file like so:

Code:
sudo echo 'deb http://www.somerepository.net/path/to/repository /' >> '/etc/apt/sources.list'

That does basically the same thing as opening the sources.list file and adding a line to it but it's faster. The former method is preferable usually.

Make sure you do a sudo apt-get update to update your repository lists afterward.

There's a little bit more to how the sources list works, find info at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repos ... ommandLine

Kubuntu ships with a different (and shittier, imo) package manager called Adept, you can find its respository manager in Action->Manage Repositories if you prefer the GUI.

How about cario dock? I don't know how to add respiritories and such. If possible, could you help me through it step by step? (I'm JUST learning Ubuntu)

I use compiz but not much, the only video card I have left is a GF4 so you can imagine. I actually do use Synaptic in Kubuntu, but it was a minor pain to get installed since you have to download and set up the GTK libraries, not to mention somewhat inefficient. Mostly I stick to the command line, it's easier IMO. I use the Adept Updater to keep updates current though.

Cool I Value Your Opinion To Use Command Line aka Terminal but i find it easier using a GUI.
im using Ubuntu Ultimate and Corrently Im Making My Own Ubuntu Distro :P

That's cool. I'm just kind of old school, I don't even like using a mouse unless it's to aim at something in a game :P CLI is really nice when you can use it.

"/tmp/cario-dock_v1.6.2.3_i686.deb could not be saved, because you cannot change the contests of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location"

Linux MCE is fucking amazing :) Once I get everything set up I plan on posting a good series of articles on it, hopefully later this year.
