nas' next LP - "nigger"

nas' (rapper, in case you been under a rock for the past decade) decided to name his next LP "nigger". not with an abbreviated 'a', an added 'n-y-u', an 'uh', or a silent 'p' at the beginning, but with an 'er'.

its been said that he's allegedly trying to 'take back' the word... or some such shit. who knows.. it's nas, and he's one preachy motherfucker. could be true, but then theres also the huge amount of attention that anything attached to 'nigger' brings in.. and the free publicity is obvious.

so, what you guys think about it?

Depends on the kinds of songs. I have no idea who this guy is, but if he avoids the "niggers be killin and rapin dem bitches" and shines light on the historical and modern usage of the word, it could be interesting.

The whole "taking the word back" stuff is bullshit- it's been a "black word" for a long fucking time now. A white man can't say "nigger" or even "nigga" without getting in serious trouble, but black people can throw it around carelessly and even get rich for doing so.

As a black man I don't know how making an album called Nigger can be "taking a word back."  If anything, it just makes the word lose even more meaning as every record store in the country will have to refer to it by name... or not carry it all.  I can see it now...

Oh god, this is actually humorous.  If I was a rapper I would name all my albums stuff like Nigger, Spick, Cunt, Kyke, Heeb, Wetback... the list goes on.

I've never really listend to Nas's rap, But "Hip Hop is Dead" Is kinda preachy. This Album can go either way. But that "Word" does get kinda old....

I'm just using racial/gender slurs in general.  If I was a rapper I would name everything after an offensive word just to piss people off.  My first album would be "The History of Fuck" or something to that effect.

Anyway the guy is a gangster rapper.. all of his songs is about shooting and stuff. He's no Al Sharpton, and Im sure he's just using Nigger to get publicity.. you know exactly how Marilyn Manson uses.. Marilyn Manson to get publicity.

Personally, I avidly await this release (as I do all Nas albums). Nas is one of the VERY few artists whose lyrics run deeper than killing, sex, and drugs. As always Nas is sending a message just as he did with his previous release "Hip Hop is Dead." You can never really know what to expect from him, but rest assure it will be a classic if not close to it. Nas is an extremely well bred lyricist.

still, even if he IS really just trying to be all deep like he always is - theres no way he doesn't know the free publicity that the name is bound to come with. im not evena  fan of nas, nor will i listen to the album, but i cant wait for it to drop =P

btw i die laughing every time a news reported uses the term 'the n-word'

I actually kinda like Nas's music (yes, I listen to a lot of things except country & emo), but stunts like this always kinda piss me off, from anyone. If I wanna hear a song, I'll listen to a musician. If I wanna see a movie, I'll watch some actors. If I want to hear a flagrant political/social statement, I'll listen to a politician or news correspondent/pundit. Thanks.

Gotta respect the fact that he's doing something that'll end up making him money, though. Controversy breeds $$$.
