Narshe - Battle World RPG first tech demo

This thread is documenting my recreation of Narshe from Final Fantasy VI in my custom RPG engine, this is a 3D recreation of the city.

I do these game recreations to test the limits of my map format, engine and tools, Narshe is a good test level because it has multiple floor heights, bridges, balconies and weirdly shaped walls.

This is not a full game, it is merely a tech demo for you all to try out.

Features include:
  • 3D recreation of Narshe's exterior town
  • Controllable with WASD + Mouse and also with Xbox 360 pad
  • Custom 3D models to recreate objects around the town
  • 3D Skybox
  • True lighting effects

Narshe is familiar to most RPG fans so recreating it should show everyone the flexibility of BWRPG's engine.

I've already hit my first limit of stacking sectors not working, I may use the 3D skybox to render the sloping roofs as they pull the geometry incorrectly quite a bit, the alternative is using 3D models for the roof, but I want to avoid that for now.

Here's an update:
The data file loading needs to be rewritten, my plan was to have a dlc folder so downloaded extras can be dropped in and loaded on the fly, overwriting the original data, this also allows for mods to be easily created and loaded, this includes total conversion mods, mods to the original game and addons like multiplayer dungeon map packs.

So I'm rewriting it and once that's done I'll continue with mapping out Narshe. I plan to leave the roofs until last as they are causing trouble, it's a big limitation for the engine it seems (stacked sectors are always difficult, I have always planned for it to be unstacked maps but narshe particularly has bridges and sloping roofs)

I also have sprites running around.
