Name Generator

(Not sure where to put this, since the thread for computer talk has somehow disappeared)

Since I haven't used Visual Basic in a while, I wanted to brush up on my skills before I forgot about them completely. As suggested to me by Jbrist, I'm currently working on a name generator.. I've got the random generation part of it working just fine, and the (very) basic UI.

What I need from you all, are possible races that you might like to see. These include, but are not limited to, dragons, minotaurs, sea creatures, ship names (both boats and space), or anything else you can think of. If there's enough suggestions, I'll update the UI to be more user friendly, and just overall easier to use (if there's a lot of suggestions, many radio buttons would cause for larger and larger windows, and not everyone has 1920x1200 resolution..). Also, if anyone has suggestions to the UI that they'd like to add, feel free, such as images or other little tidbits. If there's enough support, I could ATTEMPT to turn this into a character generator as well, though that would be a bit harder and possibly beyond my abilities, but who knows.

EDIT: I've since updated the look of the UI to be easier on myself code wise, and for the user.

hm. interesting, does this actually come up with names on it's own, or does it just have a big list of names, and randomly pick one? I remember someone actually made a program that creates original names some time ago. it was neat. :}

Yeah, it uses a list of prefixes and suffixes, that so far I've had to be typing up, I got bored after the A's though, so Psi can start some now !

If you'd like to know how my combinations of names it can do, for the A's alone I've got 256 prefixes, and Psi just made some random suffixes up, and I never got the same one twice after clicking a good couple of hundred times (He added cunt into the suffixes, and arse... and the generator really likes to spit those out, lol)

Well, obviously cunt and arse won't be there in the final product :P. I just had to toss in things for the testing.


EDIT: And, yes, it will come up with its own names, as Jbrist said.

oh, i get you. that's a cool idea.

if you're looking for orc-ish names (or other races), you could possibly take a look at the elder scrolls series, or possibly even some d&d stuff.

Hey - there's a pretty cool app out there called NameMage which you might be able to refer to for some tips. It uses three sections for names, not two, but other than that, I think the idea's the same.
