My WIP Menu look

The following is just a mock up of a menu system. I do a lot of grunge posters for bands and things so I tired to hand at this menu thing. Might do a title screen later. I'm not if I like this or not, but please tell me what you think! The black boxes are where faces of the party members would go, yes.
I do think it is missing something.

What do you think? What would you add or take away?
 
it would be cool if it was a modern game setting. It would be unsettling if it were anything else.

The top 3 boxes should be like the bottom in terms of graphic transparency. Or vice versa. A different, simple design is fine but you need to be consistent.

The HP and SP are really close together.

Heres maybe something I would do. Have your basic stuff, no faceset, ust basic info. Spread things out a little bit more in each box. Then have it so when you click menu, you are able to select one of the boxes. When you click the person selection, it brings you up to a screen with full information. You can have a half body character portrait or maybe even some graffiti of the person or really whatever. Make it edgy. The reason for this is because you are relying on sharp shapes. The square is a throw-off.

But you have discarded function for form.

A menu is supposed to be entirely for providing a slurry of information, at a glance, in a quick-to-digest format. When you force the eye to jump around like you are, you cause the player to lose their ability to make quick rationalities on the information they're seeing. It is difficult to compare stats and a chore to read the numbers when it should be just---bam--in less than a second you have a general idea of the general status of everyone.

this menu isn't pretty but BAM you just briefly glance and know everything you need to know.

Yeah, you can't look at what I have posted above and get all the info you need really quick. What I had before I stopped working on this graphic took away all the slants. Sure, it was neat, because it was different, but it's not functional.
For my first foray into system graphics, it was okay, but this is not all that usable, and I haven't been working on any game or anything to really justify to myself to put more work into fixing it.
