My two newest music compositions

Well, I think these two are a HUGE improvement over my old stuff.
I know they're both pretty short, but I'm still an amateur ok?

First one-
I imagine this to be sort of mining town music, and I did make it so that it may be repeated over and over for use in an RPG.

Second-
This I think has a bit more freedom than the other, though I imagine the best place would be some kind of friendly cave. Or a dream or something. I don't know.

The bass drum rhythm is a very excellent start, I was really getting into it, but then the song kind of fizzled out and went nowhere. I'm not too fond of the Ocarina(?) that you used.

Your song reminds me of the music that is used in Discovery Channel documentaries (it sounds kinda African, well mainly the Ocarina(?) part). It's very ambient and that's a good thing.

It's not bad, and the more I listen to the more I like it, but I could definitely like it more I think.

May not be the best advice, but if I were you, I'd add some ominous sounding strings to fill out the piece a little bit more. Not too much though, because that would kill the entire mood of the song! The piece seems to scream out for it, but that could just be me projecting my tastes on this. My motto these days seems to be: When in doubt, add strings!

Hehe.

ETA: Is it me, or are both songs the same song?

ETA #2: Okay, after a few listens I really like the song as it is. You should upload this to the downloads manager. (Though fix the volume on the Ocarina...it's kind of loud).

Maybe this is just me, but the second one is gagging for some kind of bass drone, possibly a cello? But then, I do say that about everything ^_^

The first one was good as well, but I really throught it wanted a stronger, solid rhythem to it. When I think of mining towns, I think chain gangs

Longshot, but if you could find a copy of the song Po Lazarus by James Carter and the Prisoners from the O Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack, that would be more like what I was expecting.
