My first non-incidental song; <Climbing the Ladders>

This is pretty much my first non-incidental/mood-oriented, music-for-the-sake-of-music music.  c: It is also relatively more complex than my usual stuff due to that, as there's more freedom to go out of mood-bound rules. Was also trying out strange time signatures like 7/4 and 9/4 for fun, heheh.

And as usual, I added a little To Realize signature to the start of it just for the hell of it.

Anyhow, here it is:

[I really had no idea what I was writing to be honest; the abundance of sharps and flats confused me so much that I didn't know what key I was in and just relied on ears. :x ]
It wasn't exactly written with a player's capabilities in mind. As it stands now, the sheet music is quite messy, with some parts that are hard to reach and require the left hand to play the treble cleft's parts.

Hey, that's a cool little experiment.  It didn't flow very well but if you were just screwing around then that's not a problem.  It sounds like it's in f# minor.

Wow, someone else on this forum who predominantly uses Finale 2008, cool. (Although I use 09 a lot too.) This looks interesting, ill listen to it later. By the looks of it, it seems like it's in D Major.

But eww are you using GPO/Softsynth plugin? The Acoustic Piano sounds terrible on it imo, jw.

@Sonata:
Ah, could ya possibly elaborate on that? Although it's a non-incidental music, it's still wrote as an actual piece so it would be a problem after all. c:

@Moog:
Finale 2007 actually, but I don't think there's that much of a difference. I used Bosendorfer 290 VST for it instead of the finale softsynth. I thought the GPO version of Steinway isn't that bad though, but the softsynth one is a different story.

That was quite entertaining. It gives off a hint of Tchaikovsky if you ask me. A very nice piece. The notation is a bit obscure in some places but overall I loved it. I'd like to hear more piano pieces from you.

I understand you're trying out syncopation and that sort of thing but it just doesn't seem to flow well -- it sounds as if you're sort of all over the place.

also having cheering crowd sfx at the beginning seems sort of pretentious and doesn't really add anything to the piece.

@JStreet:
Thanks, and ah, does it? I'll have to look up to some of his stuff and and freshen my memory; I remember hearing his works a few years back. And I'll try, but I'm still more inclined toward orchestral/pop-ish. c:

@Des:
(Haven't seen ya around for a while, returned full-time now by the way?)
Oh? But trying to match scales up is the fun part; it was more so some fun wandering of some more obscure chord progressions on my part from my usual cliche progressions. Less than traditional,  but more so than contemporary I say.

@Miek:
Heheh, those cheesy sound effects were actually added because I was trying to fool James into thinking that it was a real recording. Hm, I'm not exactly sure about the syncopation thing, but I was mainly trying out abnormal chord progressions. If I remember right, it was all expanded from the middle part.

Oh, I take that the rhythms are one of the more awkward aspects, then? Taking from the syncopation comment I mean. The right-hand part is rather wild notation-wise too, and it was really fun from the writer's perspective in a maniac way working with such strange time signatures, hahah.
