My DELL Desktop Monitor keeps flashing to black!

Hello. My brand freaking new monitor/computer is having quite an annoying problem. Every once in a while, most often when I do something like open up properties from my desktop, the screen will flash black for about half a second, and go back. My speakers still work, my computer doesn't lock up, but this happens.

I've ran a virus scan, found one item, deleted said infected item, and rebooted. However, the problem still persists. I do not think it's a problem with my computer (unless maybe it's overheating. We leave it on for weeks at a time =P), as nothing locks up. If it flashes and I move the mouse or exit out of a page, when the screen comes back it acts as if it never went out on me.

Sometimes the problem will be synchronized with what I'm doing. For instance, sometimes I'll have to backspace a few things (and this has happened several times in this topic writing), and each time I press backspace, the screen will go black and then come back (lawl).

Sorry, but I don't know how to check my system. I AM running some Dell Plug and Play monitor thingy with a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.

Something I also noticed was that when I minimize or maximize a page, the problem seems to happen.

Yeah, everything is plugged in properly, but it's continuing to do it more and more.

it could be something wierd with the drivers

you know when you install vid drivers or are installing windows, it blacks out and flashes back to normal as its updating. it could also be a slightly bent pin on the vga cable, pull the plug off the back of your box and take a peek at the pins to make sure theyre all straight and okay. it also might be a bad spot in the cable itself and its cutting out the signal. i had an old monitor my friend tripped on the chord at a lan, the thing never really worked right again, had to tape the chord to the side of my case in the right position to keep it on, and it would cut out occasionally. thats one thing i really liek about lcd monitors, the chord comes off at the back of the monitor and can be replaced in the case of a bent pin or if the wire gets stressed and breaks inside the insulation. its possible that the chord was damaged during packaging or shipping, dunno for sure unless i could look at it myself and mess around with it, but it sounds to be like one of the above mentioned things going on
