My attempt at lucas lee

This is my first attempt at spriting, and i thought I was doing well till i got to the head. I couldnt get the hair right at all, so I kinda gave up on it for the moment. Created with Kiwinuptuo's male athletic template.

I know its not that great, but whatdo you expect for a first time spriter? Anyway, I need some pointers on colors and hairs pleaseee xD

You need to empathize in shadows. The pants and shirt have almost no shadow, which makes the character set look like a paper doll. The hair look like a brush. No haircut has spikes that neatly organized. Also, he looks angry, but I believe that is à propos.

Thanks for the tips medinastories, I went and fixed the shadows, it looks better, but they still may need some work, Ive got to figure out the haircut though, and yes, he is supposed to look angry lol.

I'll keep imgzoom in mind mawk. What would you suggest as a base colour then? I went and fixed up the lines, making the legs even. And thanks for that link, I found a sprite of lucas lee and that sorta helped me out in figuring the shades

lucas lee sprite(just so you can see who Im basing it off of):http://spriters-resource.com/other_systems/scottpilgrimvstheworld/sheet/33609

and heres my updated sprite:

It still needs work with the shadows, but I wanna know if Im on the right track atleast xD

umm, how does imagezoom work? I have the img inside the brackets, but its not working -_-

kill the img brackets just use the imgzoom brackets

Some of your shades are too dark some of theme are too light
you need to understand contrast a bit more

in the shirt there needs to be more contrast

in the pants, the main shade is too dark

not only that the shading is a bunch of triangles
You have the workings of a nice palette you just need to execute it a bit better

use more of your midtone color and less of your super shade color in teh pants

in the shirt, you might want a little bit more contrast like stated above

also never use black for outlinings, you should focus on softer colors.Black outlines not done corectly make the sprite look jagged, not cartoony
