My Art Thread - Improving! :D

Yeah, I'm just going to do this in my own thread so I can stop spamming the sketch one. :P

Yesterday I decided to redesign, and plainly draw, Aelina from Ghost Shards. I dunno. I feel like I actually see improvement. :O I also like my version better than Star's.

I just recently saw a blog post somewhere showing artists' before and after photos - all of them saying that they got so far mainly because of practice practice practice.

Your art style is interesting. :3 It's kind of whimsical in a way and I like it. I think her right thumb is facing the wrong way? There's something by her head that isn't quite right.

I recently drew this outline thing of Poppy from mine and Star's game, Ghost Shards. She looks like she's reading naked. D=

These look great. Have you tried inking them or cleaning up your pencil lines (ebony pencils are great here)?

Nooo, I'm too nervous for that. >> Maybe I could trace them to do so? O_O

I also want to learn how to color, but yup. XD

I have issues with inking and coloring, too. D: There's always a fear that I'm going to smudge the pen lines when I erase underneath (as that's happened to me before). If you ink your stuff, make sure you give it some drying time just to be safe. You can always start drawing things separately with the intention of learning how to ink and/or color - that way you won't feel like you're ruining something that came out well otherwise. If that makes sense at all?

Hey, those are cool. I like the different expressions. You should try some faces at different angles, too.

Found some old colored pencils and decided to draw/color a picture for the purpose of using them!

Cute! If you wanted to push it harder, you could try using more colors for highlights and shadows, particularly on the hair.

Looks like you're drawing pretty small. I don't like wasting paper (why I invested in a tablet) but learning to draw big can impact the way you draw.

Each time I attempt to draw big, it ends up small. It's like I don't know how. XD

I keep having people suggest I color one of these drawings. I'm scared it'll ruin the "style" and turn out lame or generic. Does anyone have any examples of what I can try?

Do you have a tablet or know someone who has one? Digital is pretty easy to do without ruining anything.

I have one, yup. Not very good at using it though!

Well hey, that's a good place to start, then. Maybe as an exercise, you could try digitizing one of your pencil drawings and coloring it.
