I figure more people here should play Magic as it seems like Des is the only one who posts about it.

Well, if you live in the UK Wizards are shipping out free starter sets. I don't know if this means the starter box, a collection of boosters, or something else; but it's free so what the hey. You have to agree to recieve info about tournies and such through the mail, which is a downside.

i am pretty sure this is a starter kit that has two premade 40-card decks that are not tournament legal, but being free that's definitely a really fucking cool thing. i can't imagine ANY of you british people saying no to this because this really is the BEST-DESIGNED GAME OF ALL TIME and seriously worth getting into

This is actually a free starter deck (i.e. 60 cards, probably 4-5 rares, and about 15-20 of the cards will be Lands) and are sold for about $11-16CDN in card stores around my place, so probably worth about 7pounds

Wow, that's not bad then for free, especially since the postage would probably be at least £2.

I remember they used to sell the pokémon starter decks for £1 (the one with the two 30 card decks in and Machamp), and they at one point gave away YuGiOh decks for 50p ($1) as nobody was buying them (I think they just scrapped them in the end )

I ordered one, hopefully it'll come soon, though I doubt they'll send it 1st class.

There are currently no equipment cards printed that tap on their own (and even if there were, it wouldn't really change this). If you are talking about something like a twiddle effect, then tapping an equipment does nothing. The equipped creature still gets the abilities of the equipment.

Yes, it's entirely possible to tap your attached equipment to pump the myr, even equipment that is attached to it. When a creature attacks, equipment and auras attached to it don't tap with it. They're independent objects, and unless it specifically says so on the card (such as in the case of Howling Mine), it doesn't matter if it's tapped or not.

I remember how I CRUSHED the enemy with that combo (I asked because the rules are really hard to understand and I was unsure if this combo is allowed)
I even had an equipment which could untap itself.
Also I equipped him with Shield of Kaldra OH SHIT HE WAS UNSTOPABLE (Only if my brother had that fucker which controls you artifacts D

I think if you untapped it (and remove of your monster) it would damage the other player with the power of the monster...

That card has to do with being unattached, but doesn't untap itself. If you were playing it by untapping it when you unattached it, then you were playing it wrong.

A month and 2 days later and a package arrives in the post, incredibly battered, looking like some fat guy's been sitting on it since I sent off for it.

It's the "9th Edition Core Game", which includes "Premium Card" and "Magic Online". Apparently it's got 2 decks, and a 14 card booster.

"Serra Angel" is the only foil; how do I know which are "rare" or "common"?

The edition at the middle right, where there's a symbol (sword, shield, cross, etc.).

Gray = Common
Blue = Uncommon
Gold = Rare
and the newest Alara introduces Bronze = MEGA RARE (stupid idea IMO but nothing can do)

Redish = Ultra Rare
Purple = Timeshifted
