Motorcycle sprite

Hey all. I needed a motorcycle for the RPG I'm making and I wasn't satisfied by the one I found... So I thought: why not make one myself? And so I did! If anybody's interested, I can always recolor it to any color you want. Next, I'll try sitting a sprite on it and I'll post it here when I'm done. I know it looks a little weird, so comments are welcome. It's my first sprite ever, though, so please be indulgent!

1st:Why shouldn't I use pure black for lines?
2nd:I know there's no shading, but I tried doing some shading but when I zoomed back, it looked like there wasn't any shading anyway.
3rd:Some lines may be too straight, but this stuff is so small that it's nearly impossible to do otherwise. And the handles will disappear the moment I put a sprite on the motorcycle (the hands go over them).

Anything else?

You know what? I think this looks really good! But one thing is that you don't have to make it that long if you don't want too. (Unless that is part of your game.) I think that it would even look okay shorter if you wanted too. I can understand the shading, and I would love to see some of kip's sprites in order to see how he/she can judge these things so well. :P

Thank you, thank you! I think I'm gonna leave it that way though, except if I realize it's too long when I put the sprite or maybe I'd be able to place two sprites on the bike, I don't know... And I'd really want to see kip's sprites, too! You know what they say: you never have enough sprites...

kid im a retired sprited but hey feel free to look at my old crap in wip

basically every spriter (ask the vets like venita despain shadowkazer blackmarket andy6000 wumpi teloch brewmaster ccoa green(forgot the rest of his name) (heck i don't even know if those people are still arround)) knows that black makes the eyes focus on the black line instead of the general look and to show you what im telling you look at http://gas13.ru/v3/tutorials/sywtbapa_w ... prites.php see the first sprite on the page you eyes focuses moree on the black line cause it defines too much how ever if you look at the ff2(iv) battle sprite you see the the sprite is smoother beacause it dosent use black as an out line

The reason your shading was flat was probably 'cause you went gradient straight of lightness
I had the same problem once ;) (and lol I still do sometimes...)
You should have relatively high contrast - in pixel art each shade should be unique,
further more your brightest color should be yellowish and your darkest should be purplish
and both should be high saturated while as you get between you should decrease the saturation

Overall nice sprite you just have pallet problems ;)

Oh and with its current shading your back looks way off perspective wise, you should fix that,
cause right now it looks like its doing a wheelie

You shouldn't make it a head-on front view and back view. Make it more of an aerial view like some of the RTP sprites (take a look at Wagon01). Also the side-view ones should be tilted towards us instead of a flat view.

Wow... Didn't know there was so much stuff to fix! Well, I'll try arranging the shading and see what I can do about the front and back view... As for the rest, I think it's probably gonna stay that way. Maybe when I have more experience I'll give it another shot, but for now I don't have the patience required to spend anymore time ont this. Oh well. Thanks for your comments, I'll try posting the changes I've done soon.
