[MMORPG] Pora Ora

Hey all, I'm working with Caped Koala studios for the year and I want to get some opinions, ideas, suggestions from HBGames as this place is kinda my home on the internet (First forum I ever signed up to was RMXP.net).

This is Pora Ora, it's an educational MMORPG for children.
It's Caped Koala's flagship product and is aimed at stirring up the educational system to introduce new ideas and ways to bring learning into children that keeps in touch with what children like.

It is currently in beta, a lot of work is being poured into it still,in fact we have just launched a kick starter page for the project.

What is this?
Pora Ora is a free online 3D virtual world where children in the primary school age range can learn, interact and play games. The world is the first of its kind to map all educational content to the national curriculum, allowing us to level content according to each user's own ability and to provide meaningful and accurate reports to parents and teachers.

What does it have?
Usually with games in the class room it's very quiz-like, I remember at school sitting at computers doing quizzes on French or science, it didn't teach me anything and it didn't encourage me to explore the subject any more, frankly, most of the things I gain interest in or learn about I am introduce to by games I play.

What Pora Ora does is set up an online world where your child's avatar can be rewarded for completing quests or paying games, and the games are scaled based on your child's ability (If an adult plays, they end up being really tested, so it scales beyond the level of school children too).

So what you get for completing the learning games is Roobles, the currency in the game world that you spend on clothes, furniture for your house or on your Pora Pal, a pet that reflects your learning in a physical form.

The game is made in Unity and runs on Windows and Mac, I'm actually working on mobile applications that tie in with Pora Ora, so it's learning on-the-go with rewards given to your in-game account.

Does this work?
It's actually proved to be pretty successful, we're about to hit 20k registered users and we're always getting fan-mail sent in by the children who play the game and lots of schools have expressed interest in the project, so it's definitely receiving positive responses from the educational-side and the children's fun-side of things, but there is a lot to work on and so much to be added.

Take a snoop around the website: http://www.poraora.com/
Or pledge some at Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cap ... s-learning

Of course it's different and I like this because of that.

Any step who takes you away from generic MMO crap is good step.
