Mission Hill

well, adult swim recently started airing Mission Hill again, and i'm loving it. again.

For he who may not have seen it, Mission Hill is a cartoon about an aspiring cartoonist (who actually works at a waterbed store) named andy, his pothead techie friend named jim (voiced by brian posehn - who could not have been voiced by anyone else @__@), a hippie named posie (kinda a minor character), and his 'annoying' computer nerd brother named kevin.

the art and coloring style is really distinct. lots of bright, neon colors (tons of hot pink and glow-in-the-dark-esque greens), and most of the objects which would otherwise be somewhat dark tend to just be absolute black.

most of the main cast tend to be really liberal, free spirits, and hipsters. while the comedy generally follows these trends as well, it doesn't necessarily rely on any specific knowledge for the humor to be funny (most of the time, anyway).

ok so mission hill is my favorite cartoon not aimed directly at children. unfortunately it only got one season. despite the fact that it has a strong following, and people seem to love it, it was cancelled like a million times, and only accumulated 13 episodes before kicking the bucket. :\

currently, they're airing it on adult swim again (pretty damn late, tho), and there's also a DVD out of (probably) the 13 episodes produced.

anyone else love this program?

Ah man, I freaking love MH. Its the best show on Adult Swim besides Venture Bros and Old Aqua Teen Episodes imo. Its funny as hell and I reccommend it to anyone who likes witty humor.

man i loved this show when it was on teletoon years ago. good times. use to watch it all the time. also with Clone High, Undergrads and some other show that i cnat recall. good times

A great show ^_^

I wonder why shows like The Oblongs, Mission Hill, and Home Movies (although it did air for 4 seasons) are regulated to late night reruns, while adult swim parades new shows such as Assy McGee, Squidbillies, and Fat Guy Stuck in Internet?

I especially liked the 'Man from Pluto' episode. Great satire of all those science fiction B-movies, like Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Mission Hill was one of Adult Swim's last great series's, only topped by Venture Bros. So, I agree with the rest of you guys.  :thumb:

Yeah, I love Mission Hill and I've been happy they've been rerunning it.
Cool thing for me though, is that with my relocation, our time has been shot two hours faster,
so Mission Hill is coming on early on my body clock. =D

Mission Hill was a nice little series.  It was kind of an urban hipster Bill Cosby of animated television.  Home Movies was very good, in fact better in my opinion.  I will agree that the new offerings have yet to surpass the strength of the old lineups in their heyday, but there are still some good shows.  Venture Brothers is better than a lot of even the older shows, Metaloclypse is solid, and Frisky Dingo was very good although badly time slotted.  It does baffle me why they continue bothering with the Tim and Eric stuff.  Tom Goes to Mayor was generally unfunny despite all the guests who tried to help out that show.  Awesome Show was equally retarded if not actually worse.  I always wondered why any of that crap would come on before Frisky Dingo.  I mean I got why ATHF would precede it and the rest of their proven commodities but Tim and Eric in its configurations belonged in the 1:00 spot.

True, but I don't consider Venture Bros "new", as it premiered like 2+ years ago. Metalocalypse is a good series, as is Frisky Dingo.

There is something strange about Fat Guy and Saul of the Moleman. It is the most stupid shit I have ever seen, and yet I feel compelled to watch.

I never really liked Saul of the Molemen, although Fatguy is okay..
For some reason, and I don't know why, shows of SOTMM's style remind me of Peewees' playhouse.

And not in a silly "I'm funny scareded of Barney" way, but more of a psychological problem of sorts,
but Peewee's playhouse allways gave me like, a scared or creeped out feel.  I dunno why. O_o....

Home Movies was funny at times to, but I think I prefer Mission Hill over Home Movies.

You know, I also HATE Assy Mcgee and Squidbillies.
Honestly, they just aren't funny. Ever. They're just stupid.

It pisses me off whenever I see them on, and nothing else is on T.V. x.x

Oh, and occasionally, Tim and Eric's Awesome Show(Great Job) has been somewhat funny.
Not like LOL funny, but more like a, I'm bored and have nothing better to laugh at, funny.

the FIRST series of metalocalypse was good.
the new ones aren't very funny.

tim and eric is the kind of really really stupid humor that only appeals to a certain percentage of people. you kinda have to understand why it's funny (not saying that EVERYONE who doesn't like it doesn't understand it, but lots of people just don't get it). tom goes to the mayor was epic. jeff goldblum, david cross, brian posehn, jack black, patton oswalt, fred willard, sarah silverman, michael ian black.. best guest star cast ever (all they were missing was christopher walken). adult swim's new programming, in general, has become much more catered towards the alternative comedy crowd, and their strong support of tim and eric helps to prove this. all their new shows are just becoming more kinda ridiculous (in a good way), and pushing the limit on just how far you can go with a cartoon under sable television standards. they're not afraid to try new art styles (or just making the art look like shit while still being cool), or comedic styles that are COMPLETELY different than what most of the general public is used to in their television programs, and using 'stupid' humor which, ironically, is much more intelligent than the generic shit you see on every other channel.

i think pretty much everyone in the universe agrees that the venture bros is epic. not much to be said about that @__@

I like the story-specific episodes of Metalocalypse. Like the Revengicer episodes of season 2.

The world economy is crumbling and waiting for the next Dethklok album to stimulate it back into order. It’s up to Dethklok to get the album just right and finished on time.

Dethklok’s new album is released to the world. The Revengencers make their next move.

Sound like good episodes.

True. I found that pizza sketch with the porn girl to be pretty funny. And a lot of the "song" sketches are pretty funny in a, 'WTF am I watching?' sort of way.

And I like the episode where they are with a limo or taxi driver, and the guy call them a rapist. They say, "Uh, please don't call me a rapist." And the old guy replies, "Well, then don't rape!" I laughed hard during that scene.

man i came in here to post something about mission hill but i forgot cause this topic somehow turned into adult swim discussion :\

ill edit later if i remember it

MH is alright I suppose. i've never lol'd at it, or even smiled vaguely, but the brightly-colored art style and story are mildly amusing in an offhand way. i think it's because i find most of its character archetypes fairly annoying, even though the characters themselves aren't terribly annoying (outside of the kid brother).

oblongs is a piece of shit, i never understand why people love that so much. the style is cool enough, but it tries SO FUCKING HARD to be funny when 99% of all jokes fall totally flat so i really lost all patience for it. plus there're only like 13 episodes so i don't know why AS keeps fucking running them over and over.

venture bros. is my current favorite on there, followed by metalocalypse. i wanted to see the concert when they got to st. petersburg but i think i was too late for tickets or it was on a work night or something. but yeah the writing for those is totally solid. even the episodes that aren't like LOLfunny are still very amusing.

i love the fucking shit out of boondocks but they never fucking produce those shits. the same can be said for V.B. but we're in the middle of a new season of that right now so. i swear to god my uncle is granpa freeman -- it's like they videotaped his life and then animated it. (yes, one of my uncles is black, he's an uncle by marriage)

athf is hit-or-miss, but i still like it. i even saw the movie in theatres.

the first two seasons of robot chicken nearly made me piss my pants, but this latest season has been rather corny.

tim & eric ... holy shit i watch this but god damn it it's so fucking strange. it's usually funny in a very absurd, "wtf????" sort of way, but occasionally skits make me literally LOL, such as that poopchute commercial or the thing for a child clown rental service.

assy mcgee, i loved the pilot in that i thought it was a joke. when it turned out to be not-a-joke, i lost interest. squidbillies is rather painful, but since i have a few rednecks in the family, some things are a little funny in a spiteful way.

saul of the molemen was actually rather entertaining, as was that brit thing about a dude in a hospital, but fat guy stuck in internet drags.

home movies is cute and entertaining, the characters are developed pretty well, so it's easy to follow.

anyone remember Korgoth the Barbarian? holy fucking shit i loved that pilot so much. i wish they would produce that over that piece of shit SuperJail.

Yeah boondocks is arguably the best show on Adult Swim behind Venture Bros. The only big deal with it imo is that its 50% intelligent humor/nigga jokes and 50% LOL WHITE PPL! I love how show shows how fucking stupid blacks can get sometimes.

hahahahaha oblongs lol

I think that Boondocks Season 1 > Season 2, though.

But the Ed and Rummy episodes are always the best.

Oh, and yeah, I never understood why Korgoth of Barbaria never become a series. The pilot was more epic than half the shit on TV.

Actually I think it's because the producer(?) of Korgoth, Brendon Small (who made Home Movies), is working on Metalocalypse.

i think?
