Mapping Help!

Sigh, I'm so bad at this. I need to know how to make it so some tiles you walk underneath them. I've looked around for the answer but I can't find it.

Edit: I have another question that has only to do with pokemon games basically. You know how pokemon games always have trees on the side to block you from going that way. Not it looks like all the trees are right beside each other, I tried to do that but they would overlap each other. I'm wondering if anyone knows what part of the tree I should put in what layer. I'm using R/S/E graphics. I'll try to get some pictures of what I mean.

Also, What are auto tiles?

Go into the Database and then Tileset tab. Click tile's to 'X' to make them impassible. Use other RTP maps to get the hang out how to set the Priorities work. Priorities are what makes you go behind or under things. It's just easier for you to study the defaults, than for me to tell you. ;)

Good luck,
Mundane

Okay, thanks the X thing worked.

first: When you go into the database, you set the priority of the tile. if it has anywhere between2-5 stars, you will walk behind the object. 0-1 star you will walk in front of (i think. It might just be 0).

second: When you are doing trees, always put the bottom half in the 2nd layer and the top half in the 3rd layer. When you do it this way you can overlap trees much easier.

Third: auto tiles are tiles that form themselves depending on what is next to them. On most standard tilesets, the first row is made up of auto tile. The are generally grass, water, or some sort of a building tile.

To add to what game freak & mundane said...

Priority 1 means the characters feet & body (whatever's on the base 32x32 tile) will walk behind that tile. Whatever part of the character that is taller than 32 pixels will show in front of that tile.
Try making a new 'Grassland' map, and set the 'grass' tile to Priority 1. You can only see the character's head walking around.

Priority 1 is typically for objects that are drawn in between 2 tiles that you can walk in front of & behind. Take a look at the headboard & blanket tiles for beds.

Hopefully that adds a bit of clarity.

Be Well
