I live in oregon, and a few days ago, we had a massive lightning storm, and fires were lit everywhere arounw where we live.

Well, Hines (the town I live it) was just placed on High Alert for a fire which is dangerously close.

Man, this sucks!

We were not told to evacuate yet, or to get ready or anything, but on the radio it said we were on alert.

And right now it is 9:44 at night!

I can only hope...

Damn that sucks, the weather around the world seems to be a little off these days Rain in Europe,Fires in the US, cloudy in France, flood in China, something in Russia but I cant remember what :p and here in Iceland we have been running on temperatures of low 20's ?C wich is hot here at least and the driest at this time of year in Akureyri since we started measuring.

damn that's bad! kinda sounds like centralia (but centralia was because of fire blasting out of the ground), hopefully it doesn't go for the worst though.

well, after getting a lot of stuff ready in case we did have to evacuate, we went to bed and a I woke up a few hours ago, and still we have not been told to evacuate... which is a good thing

There is a road that goes from where I live to Bend Oregon (2 hours away) and it is a huge route for trickers and for people who are going to/from portland to Boise (idaho)

They closed the road between it because of the fire, and last night when I was filling up my gas tank in my car, I went to the truck stop which is right next to where they closed the road, and there was about (no kidding) 125+ semi trucks trying all parked in the lot, sleeping.

And from the truck stop, it you looked over the hill towards the fire, you could see a orange glow... it was creepy!

But we are still here, so that is a good thing. ^_^

I will try and take a picture of the fire, if I can, from a high mountain that is next to where it is supposed to be. If they havent closed that road too... :D

I remember the biscuit fire that burned down like, all of southern Oregon, got REAL close to where I live (Grants Pass. You know, Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland - the southern oregon trifecta).

It was really smokey for days

A bit more recently, there was a fire out in Applegate, and my friends and I just happened to be one of the first to notice it. It was maybe half a mile away from us before the fire department made us leave. That was kinda cool.

Yes, I said a forest fire was cool.

They are natural, important parts of the ecosystem

Well, at least i'm lucky. There is never horrible weather in Erie. Everything dies off (or becomes less of a danger) by the time it gets to where I live.

Set up some sprinkler systems in your yard! lol J/k. Hopefully they get control of the fire or it rains a crap load. Us hillbillies in Kentucky have been in a drought for 3 months now...Our firework show pretty much sucked because of it. I hate weather sometimes...

Well, the fire still isnt contained, but it is not moving as fast... although I can hear the wind starting up again...

Today it was raining little tiny pieces of ash, all around town, and the sun and sky were mostly all blocked out by smoke.

Similar thing happened in South lake Tahoe, Ca, where I live. The Angora fire, it was like on the news everywhere, but what was different was that it was manmade. Atleast this was natural, and (I just skimmed through your first post, and correct me if Im wrong) atleast no houses have burnt down yet. Good luck man.
