LOVEPIXEL, like Wheres Waldo from Japan

Ok, feel free to move this if need be, because this could go anywhere really. I'm not too sure...

Anyways, I happened across a fun little website thats very similar to playing a game of "Wheres Waldo", except for the fact that your not looking for someone. Which is a good thing, considering your looking at a website that is showcasing 25 PNG's arranged 5 x 5, each with 2000 x 2000 pixels. Its essentially a giant isometric pixel art extravaganza that you will spend a healthy 15 minutes gazing at. The most incredible thing about it is that it was made by only one dude in japan. So, pixel artists, eat your hearts out!

(WARNING: LINK MAY KILL YOUR COMPUTER WITH ITS AWESOMENESS).

BTW, each tile is 16*16 big.

Wow. I can't begin to guess how much effort went into this.

I'm almost done checking out the entire thing, and I'm really impressed with the spriting here. The people are a little too simplistic for my tastes, but everything else is simply beautiful. The city's really diverse, too -- what I'd give to have this guy's brain so that character and level design wouldn't be such a chore. :\

The shading is done in a rather cartoony style that I think fits spectacularly. If you check out how the creator sprited, say, the wakes behind boats, you could see that he is more than capable of shading when he wants to.

The map is mostly composed of flat surfaces, shaded according to how they face the sun. In this instance, the sun is coming directly from the viewer -- that is, in this 3/4 view, the sun is roughly 45' from the surface of the earth. I quite like this style because of how pretty it makes square structures, especially around the corners. Nothing needs to be shaded any more than it is, because it's simply how things would look if you viewed a world made out of so many flat surfaces from a camera positioned directly in front of the sun.

I was only joking about the shading.

Also that wiki article is actually wrong, he was redubbed Waldo, not the other way round.  I never get why they go into so much effort to rename things.  Is Wally offensive in North America or something?  I remember getting furious when they renamed the Turtles over here to HERO Turtles...  I was furious.

Are you talking about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?  Wow, I had no idea they renamed them Hero Turtles!

No they did in England, and it was just when I moved back from America (i lived in Florida for 5 years) and at the time it was my favourite show.  Probably government scared kids would want to be ninjas or ninjas implied something bad.

Really? It must've just been England because in the rest of the UK it was still ninja turtles. (Well, at least in Ireland and Scotland it was)

Huh, it's weird I don't remember that...it makes me want to look for the toys I had when I was a kid to see if they really were censored or if it was just the TV show.

Awesome, but nothing like Where's Wally at all...

But still awesome. That's one hell of a town though - a space centre and a football stadium!?

(But they lamed out and called it soccer.)

Yes it is, because in the Where's Wally books it shows various hectic scenarios with lots going on, and THIS is a hectic scenario with lots going on.

no reason to it, they just changed his name. apparently his name is charlie in france, walter in germany, and holger in denmark.

this isn't all that great looking. sure, its huge, but the lack of detail, shading, and blocky style just isn't really impressive.

Is this really by a japanese dude? Does anyone see a name I was wonderin' 'cause the url is .tw = taiwan and not .jp =japan? I can't see the characters so idk...I'd like ta get ta a comp. and see the other stuff they have up.
