Looking Help on a project

Hi, My name is Supah and I have had a facinating idea for a game (as I am an author and an excellent story teller) It is a sort of sequel to FF7, my all time favorite game, however I'm woefully underskilled at just about everything in RPGXP. I'm looking for people who can make tilesets and sprites and who know their way around mapping, as well as people who will support in general (and hopefully help create my project) If anyone is interesting either PM or reply to this topic for more details, general knowledge of FF7 is nice but not required. Also if you want to help for any extended period of time I am willing to share email / AIM addresses. Thank you for your time

EDIT: The Format is RPG XP

Thats not an excellent idea, thats an absolutely horrible idea. Most fan games screw up and make an epic fail, but a FF7 one. Yeah, try to make something original first, as originality is key to making good games.

If your idea is awesome, then I have a strong suggestion for you:

Don't work on it yet.

What!?, I hear you say. My idea is awesome! Why shouldn't I work on it now?

Well, yeah. That's kind of the point. Here's how it is:

RPGmaker, of whatever generation (and you didn't say which program you're using, BTW), can do things that you haven't thought of. On the other hand, it'll doubtlessly have problems doing things that you really want. You need to learn how it works, get a feel for it, understand its full capabilities.

If you do that while writing your Ultimate Dream Game, your Ultimate Dream Game is going to suck. You won't know how to make things work well, and you'll get frustrated, and make compromises that you don't have to make.

Start your Ultimate Dream Game-- FF 7.5 or whatever-- after you have a project or two under your belt. It'll be infinitely better.

Also: It almost looked like you were saying, "I have a great idea for a game! Will somebody else write my game for me?"

That's not generally successful. At the very least, sell us on your idea. Why is it better than the project that, say, I'm working on right now? What's awesome about it? And, uh, why should we work on your game instead of ours-- especially since we'd be writing a game to your specifications, but without much help from you?

It works much better if you can develop your own skills, and ask for help for specific things. That way, you aren't dependent upon somebody else to come up with ideas for you.

But if you really want to inspire us to help you, tell us why your game is so awesome.

And then make it second. Or even third.

and hopefully help create my project
Good luck with that. Nobody's going to want to help someone who they have no idea if the game in question will ever be finished. Being a fangame, that's more likely than not.

It is a sort of sequel to FF7, my all time favorite game
Leave that to our friends at squeenix, please. Unless it's really awesome with all custom stuff and an original story (which will be difficult with a fangame), people are generally turned off from fangames.

Like Unka Josh said, try making a few projects before you try making a fangame. People will be much more likely to play a derivative work by a developer whose games they enjoy, and you will also be able to get much more help with graphics and music and the like if you still suck at that.

Instead of going, :barf: "Oh, look there's another newbie making a FFVII fangame," they'll be,: "Hey, Supah's making a fangame! He made that one game that got finished and wasn't crap, so maybe this shows more promise than your average fangame."

IT is original i assure you, I'm an excellent storyteller and I promise this will not be degraded into a terrible fanfic
Then you should have no problem writing a non-derivative story! :thumb:

well i see good points made here, just close this post for now, or delete it

EDIT: However for the record, I was looking for other people who would make the game in as a group, of course, how many games were made entirely by one person? They had multiple people including scriptors, STORYLINE DEVELOPERS, mappers ect

take unka josh's note very seriously. even if other people help you, you need to know how to use xp. my brother and i started 2 games before REALLY making a good one. the first game was in rm2000 and was a great learning process. we read an idiot's guide to switches and everything :)

i would advise fleshing your story out too (if you haven't) and posting that, otherwise no one would have a reason to help you.
i don't believe in fan games because they're not very original. and i think great writers don't need to make fan game because they have their own ideas. but i could very well be wrong, so give us a little more info, instead of telling us you're a great writer, instead show us.

good luck
