Looking for a Webhost -- Any recommandations? ^^

Hi~

My webhost ended up being a fraud, scammed all his customers and is now in hiding, wanted by several lawsuit agencies. :D That leaves my website dead (www.roseportalgames.com) and me with the question: does anyone know a good webhost? Not too expensive, but good service and CPU usage amount, etc. Also one that allows having two domain names, without having to buy two whole hosting packages. (e.g. my webhosting before the one that scammed me allowed only one domain name per hosting package >_>) I need PHPBB3 support, too.

Also, I have a second problem... My domain name www.roseportalgames.com was registered through the guy who has now disappeared (EasyCPanelHosting). How can I get it moved to my new webhosting? I don't know how to move it anymore, because EasyCPanelH has completely died.

My knowledge on this stuff is veeeeery low so I'm posting it here. ^^ Hopefully that's OK and someone here can help me~~. ^^

As far as new hosts go you can prolly get away with any five to six dollar shared host. I don't get what you mean by cpu usage amount, what is your website doing other than running a forum, displaying pages, and offering a download of your game? For phpbb3 you just need a host that supports php and mysql, which almost all do nowadays. Just take a look at shared plans. The only things you need be concerned for are aforementioned and getting the amount of hard drive space you need which is usually given in abundance (the shared hosting market is all about cheap overselling these days).

As far as data recovery and your domains are concerned it really depends on the situation. Was his property seized? If so you may be able to recover from the authorities.

Also keep in mind that phpBB3 can only handle one domain out of the box. IE users are the most affected by this issue. We learned that the hard way.

there free hosting is good, but there paid is a hell of alot better (well duh) i've usewd them for the past 2years and havent had a single problem, except whn they were upgrading the servers.

but yeah this is a nice host.

Ah, thank you for the websites!

@Captain M.: Well, my previous webhost (the scammer) always spoke of how my website used too much CPU Usage...or something. Maybe it was a lie to get me to pay more, though, because when I went through the topic regarding his arrest, many people were told that their website used too much CPU.

Awesome Bro

Twin Matrix, i can't believe this has happened to be honest. I did the companie's website (to which i had no problems with payment) and he seemed like a decent guy from what i could gather. After i handed the site to him, before it went live he butchered it horribly to which i wasn't too happy about, but it was his website at the end of the day.

I simply CANNOT believe this

Tried to charge you more for using too much CPU? Sounds like the guy hasn't got a fucking clue what planet he lives on. That approach alone is simply unprofessional for a start!

1) I gotta put in a shameless plug for our host TheComputerGuyHosting

2) Easycpanelhost.com is not an accredited registrar through ICANN. Which means they are probably re-selling registration through an accredited registrar. Their website is registered through GoDaddy. That would be a good place to start. Either way, you need to find out who the registrar is so you can get control of your domain & point it to a new nameserver(s).

3) I'll send I sent a message to our host, and see if he has any insight.

Best of Luck

I would be wary of webhostingpad and really any hosting company that is totally vague on the features you are purchasing. Their ad is a great example of overselling. Offering unlimited transfer for a shared webhost is the equivalent of McDonald's offer of free ketchup. Its nice but ultimately useless because you will never come close to consuming anywhere near enough to cause any real hardship. The difference is of course McD's doesn't boast its free ketchup, cause well everyone knows its just ketchup. Second notice the fact that they allow you unlimited databases emphasis on the s. Many shared hosts will give you unlimited databases. But they will also cap that each database cannot exceed a memory ceiling of around 50 megs to 100 megs of memory. For a small pissant phpBB forum that is no big deal. But for something that aspires to grow as large as this place that is a huge problem. They say no hidden fees but they made no promise of hidden catches. I would bet that the unlimited hard disk space just means a ceilingless plan, whereby you start at 50 gigs or some such of hard disk and as you stick around they add a gig every month or so. Hence by the magic of doublethink and marketing sophistry its unlimited memory! Or even worse it just means that if you exceed they charge you for an upgrade to your memory. In the end its all vague and deceptive but rest assured unlimited rarely means actually unlimited. Or it means that they are giving away something of little to no value, ie ketchup.

What's really funny about webhostingpad is they won't even give you any more in-depth information on what you are buying even if you go to purchase a plan. It just brings you right to the credit card payment screen with no elaboration on what you are purchasing and what the terms are. Seriously that's a bad sign.

Yeah, but I also know someone who is using them as a host, and hes had no problems thus far. hes go a forum, a couple pages, and such. i know its not large, and I understand what youre saying. I am planning to purchase from them, but ill look into it a bit closer now.

I haven't done any research about them, but I use Host Gator and love it. Their rates are highly reasonable. My old package at GoDaddy was 3.95 for 10GB of disk usage, 500GB of monthly bandwith, and a max of 10 MySQL accounts. For 9.95 a month at Host Gator, I get unlimited disk usage, unlimited monthly transfer, unlimited databases, anonymous FTP, unlimited sub-domains, addon domains, and a bunch of shit that I doubt I'd use.

TheComputerGuyHosting isn't as stable as many others out there, we've had three downtimes since we switched to them. Although, they are pretty cheap.

Not really a fair comparison, since we are not on one of his commercial servers. We're getting a rock-bottom price because we're on one of his personal ESX servers.
The downside: we're on an isolated backbone connection with no redundant switching. (one router goes snafu & we're out of luck.) Our server, both HW & SW has
been up 100% since we made the switch.

Twin,

Your Registrar is NetEarthOne

You'll either need to choose a new registrar and transfer the domain, or you may just be able to get an account there & continue to use them. Contact them, let them know your situation, and they should be able to help.

Be Well

For shared hosting, ASmallOrange and DreamHost are good stuff.
For VPS, I recommend Slicehost or Media Temple (if you need high quality, industrial strength stuff).

I used to own the company with George, until I decided the bloke was a crook. I can get you access to your domain if you'd like it back. Also, my hosting company offers a free month refugee discount for past EasyCpanelHost customers if you'd like to give us a shot.

Hardly any hosting company is actually an accredited registrar. They aren't reselling through GoDaddy, a simple whois of the domain would show that. I basically set up the entire network for EasyCpanelHost, and I set them up with a reseller account at NetEarthOne (one of my buddy's registrar).

He's not arrested, nor is he hiding. I talked to him just the other night on the phone.

Thank you very much. :)

I managed to get back control over the domain name at NetEarthOne (thanks to Brewmeister :3). And I bought a Deluxe Web Hosting package at TheComputerGuyHosting. I changed the name servers of http://www.roseportalgames.com at NEO accordingly (ns25.domaincontrol.com & ns26.domaincontrol.com), however, when I go to http://www.roseportalgames.com it's still not working. (Which isn't very surprising, as all I did was change nameservers. :x) I'm not sure what to do next? TCGH has a 'Transfer Domain' service, but I already have control over the domain so I don't think that should be necessary. Plus, it's not even working, because when I select http://www.roseportalgames.com I'm returned to the page for buying new domains.

If you configured the nameservers correctly it will take some time for the change to propagate. This assumes everything was done properly including parking the domain with your host machine.
