|Life|Death|Psi|: The Psion Chronicles

Life Death Psi
The Psion Chronicles
Since the dawn of time, there have been a myriad of worlds. They mainly stay apart, drifting in space-time, their absolute energy unharnessable by other worlds. Each has their own type of magic, and if anyone had control over a type not from their world they could become its ruler.

Among the myriad of worlds are the Nexus worlds: worlds that have more power than others. The Psions of Earth have reached out, and managed to contact the other Seven Nexus Worlds. Earth's Nexus has been activated, now it's a race against time before the mysterious being known as Lartenia uses that power from Earth to achieve his goal: awaken the Four Horsemen and destroy reality itself. The seven Nexus Worlds have all recieved the message, and representatives of the Guild of Earth Psions are on their way to each Nexus World to help activate their Nexus. If all eight are activated, then the Psions of each world can find, and hopefully stop, the Four Horsemen.

This is the story of Sarnia.

Slannon: face002
A young survivor of the disease that swept Blackcoast. He has trained in the arts of Magick, and, after encountering Seth and Larten, is determined to stop them. He gets angry easily, a fact that Charlotte always enjoys exploiting.
Scythe and Sol are his yin and yang forms.

Charlotte: face015
A healer from the in-between world of Sarvos. She originally doesn't want to help Slannon, but eventually decides to help him in his quest. Every time you enter Blackcoast's other side and use the sigil, she forces you to figure out a way to escape the city, much to her amusement. She is somewhat religious, and is horrified by Slannon taking powerful artifacts.

Irrentia: face076
A gargoyle who gained life, his sole purpose is to guide Slannon to the Crests of Life, Death, and Psi. He can't remember who made him, or why he was given life, but seems to be the only one who can destroy Barriers in reality.

Gus: face043 with blue hair and green eyes
A telepath who wants to stop Larten, his life was turned upside down when he met Seth. Although the two are on opposite sides of the fight, there seems to be some sort of connection between the two...

The Evil

Seth: face30
A strange masked man who has some unusual Psi. He never takes off his mask, which seems to be the source of much of his power.

Larten: face013
Somehow got ahold of the Crests of Life, Death, and Psi, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Only he knows his true goals, although he seems to have allies even more powerful than him.

And how to you get to this island??

Life:
  • Quest involving Irrentia trying to return to life
  • Irrentia's Water and Ice type moves

Death:
  • Quest involving Dronic trying to find his father
  • Irrentia's Fire and Earth type moves

Psi:
  • Quest involving a rift draining magic from the world
  • Irrentia's Wind and Lightning type moves

Each one also has one special boss, one required dungeon, and one optional dungeon different from each other.
After beating New Game and gaining the Champion Key (before you beat the game), you can play New Game+, which is the same game but the ability to switch versions and an extra couple of dungeons. If you beat that with all three Crests, (very unlikely), then you will get New Game-, which is the full story (instead of just the flashback scenes) for Sarvos, the hero who brought Magick to your world. So it goes:
  • New Game
  • New Game+ if you have the Champion Key
  • New Game- if you gathered all 3 Crests

  • Emotion System: Use anger to attack with the Orb Rod, or sadness to heal. More emotions release a variety of effects!
  • Teleport Grid-go to almost any previous city easily!
  • 3 Versions to choose from!
  • Optional side quests to help build your army for the final battle!
  • Read minds through telepathy battles!

3 different title screens-khmp
Secret Bosses-Demodronik, XCelled, and Larynni
Scripts: Woratana, puppeto4, CociCookie, Dargor, ERZENGEL, khmp

Note that this is pretty much the whole game that is the same in both versions, and that I'm mapping and making the story before I do monsters. Thus only a couple, required battles, and the strange title screen.
Latest Version
Other versions go from nexest to oldest.

What do you think? Rate, try, play...

If you beat that with all three Crests, (very unlikely),

Okay, this just strikes to be quite odd.  Why would it be unlikely?  Don't you want people to play your entire game?

Also, from what I can see from your two screenshots, your mapping sucks. Just add more to the maps.

Please define 'more', and I'll do my best.

Getting the three crests would mean running through the game three times, (Or at least the dungeon at the end, which should take a half an hour alone when I'm done,) and in that dungeon you get no items, a level 20 cap, and the requirement of having the Champion Key for the second and third playthrough, I'm actually hoping few people get the final story.

That sounds kind of pointless but...okay?

By more I mean throw things on the ground, make different ground tiles.  Just anything to spruce up the maps.  On your world map try adding different ground tiles or add tress and mountains.  Just to make it look good.  Also some of the rocks in the water would make it look better.

Oh! Thanks, I'm somewhat new at this, so I could use the advice. I noticed those tiles after I posted the topic, so will be adding those to a couple of places. I've already added a few bits like that, like the rift in the middle of the deep water and a northern island (Island is only in Sola) that is covered in snow.

I'll work on it more when I get home, and maybe post another update. Have you downloaded the game and played the demo yet? I'm hoping for a little more constructive feedback. Also, it's my plan to make it difficult, as it will let only the best players get the hidden backstory. (Or the really stubborn/lucky ones. My friend beat a Final Fantasy boss with lv49 people when his brother couldn't with lv70. It took a half hour.)

Well I took your advice and added more land, rocks etc. to the first world map. Still working on the dungeon for its mirror version and both cities. Could people download the demo and try it out? I know it needs work so I'm completely overhauling the first two towns.

I'll be completely blunt here. I stopped reading after I saw the word "Magick" and "Magickal", and because of these two words I'll unfortunately never play it. It's as bad as that game that was in the works not to long ago called Thyf, it's as bad as people named Sayra, Meghan etc.  Also I DID look at the images, the maps look like they were quickly created so that you could qualify to make a post in the early projects thread.

Please, at least post some ideas on how to improve the game, and ignore the screenshots as they are old and I'm making better ones now. Also, people can choose to use "magic" or "magick" or "magyk" or even, although I personally can't see why, "magyck", as long as they like what they choose.

I don't know what else I can say about what you need to do to improve the game. The maps were crap, but you said you're improving them I guess. And the word Magick irritates the hell out of me so I didn't get very far into your thread. And I never said you couldn’t use “Magickâ€

So basically, you ignore a game that you may or may not like because it contains a word that you consider "backwoods lingo"? (example: Lost Magic for DS where Isaac (main character) goes on about a slightly cliché senario (Monster attack, got seperated from parents, dad is a powerful mage)) Please offer an explaination on why spelling something in a different way than is usual, but is stil proper, is "stupid."

"Magick" is actually the preferred spelling when referring to non-illusions and such (as you would expect from a modern magician)

Its hardly backwoods lingo.

In either case, this game seems sort of unique with three different stories. It looks interesting, and I'll play it when its finished. Good luck

I get turned off by shit like that too. Most of the time, it's usually just some kid trying to be special and arcane, and the end result is that the game doesn't seem special at all, and is just the standard RMVX game except it misspells "magic".

But of course, I'm not implying that your game is like that.

Thank you, both of you.

@kaze The stories are similar (in fact, up to the point in the second world where you get Irrentia, you can even copy-paste your save files over) but after that point the stories head off in completely different directions. Also, kind of interesting fact: illusionism is often referred to as "prestidigitation," although I can't pronounce it. Psi in the title of the trio of games is like...an umbrella for all different types of Magick at this point, although I may just go back and change every time it says Magick to Psi.

@missingno Thank you for not implying it's not just trying to be "special". I just figured it seemed more accurate so I chose it. I'm updating the link now with a newer version, so feel free to try it! (note, still not done but better than the previous version. I'm working on the intro, so ignore the lack of help and head to he northern tower.)

Honestly by after seeing the gaiaonline avatar, I had naturally assumed you to be a 14yr old kid who thought the word "Magick" sounded awesome. When I hear "Magick" I think of Witchcraft and pedophiles. As for the ladder don't as why, it just sounds like that is how a pedophile would say "Magic". The word is VERY unappealing to me, like I initially mentioned and will continue to mention. Maybe “Backwoodsâ€

Have you tried replacing it with another word in your head? And the gaia avvie is only because I was bored.

Personally, you should give things a chance, otherwise how do you know if you like them? (Also, Magick isn't in the game...as far as I can tell from my quick search.)

PREPOST EDIT: Darn, you beat me to it! and the demo may use the word, but my copy that I'm editing right now doesn't.

I played this game... or, maze. Honestly, the whole thing is just mazes and a non-sensical plot line. I really don't understand this game. I've just been thrown into a game with no way to know where to go...

Also, the song of Teleportation takes me to a room with teleports... to the entrance?

Along with that, sleeping in your bed PERMANENATELY fades the screen.

You have some serious work to do here.

Honestly, as mean as this sounds, I suggest people avoid this game. Its just constant mazes. I couldn't make it ANYWHERE after I got on the boat. I ended up in a dungeon that I couldn't find the end to WHILE HOLDING CONTROL TO WALK THROUGH WALLS.

More teleportation areas become usable as you progress through the game. Also, again I wanted to only update to show progress, so not all of it's perfect. For now, just ignore the nonsensical storyline as I work on it more. Also, if I'm right you're in the Infinite Maze, which I designed to be that way. It loops around, so it has no ending. All there is is the stairway out and the treasure chest with an object that is...useless for now. Another thing I'm changing: the pier to the small side island. it'll be different when I update, maybe in a week or so?
