Let's talk Silent Hill!

With Silent Hill Orgins coming out soon, Silent Hill 5 revealed, Silent Hill:The Arcade revealed, and me finding out that Pyramid Head is going to be in a Track & Field game, I feel it's time that we start up a Silent Hill thread.

Please only discuss the series here, don't flame others opinions (A friendly debate=not bad though).

PH in a track & field game?? ROfFLes ...

Pyramid Head is probably the most manly, creepy, and awesome game monster(?) I've ever seen. I don't know why putting a weirdly elongated tin pyramid on a guy's head who wears half a toga and carries a ridiculously huge machete makes an enemy awesome, but it does. I've never had more heebie jeebies with a character on a screen than with that(those) guy(s).

I haven't heard much about SH5, except I heard it might take place in another town, which I wouldn't doubt. My interpretation from the last 2 games is that SH itself is growing somehow. (I realize that SH4 wasn't originally intended as a SH game but they've incorporated it into the official storyline so nyah).

Not taking the movie into consideration, do you think that SH (the town) chooses the people it wants to see it, or do you think that it's based on the bad things they've done/skeletons in their closet? Because I've heard both theories and I'm leaning more toward the former than the latter.

(Love your sig BTW)

Heh, thanks. Anyways, it's definitely the former, since Henry is guilty of no crimes before being sent to Silent Hill. And it's been confirmed that Harry's actions in SH1 may have, in fact made Silent Hill more convoluted and distorted, and since Alessa isn't holding it back anymore, it's free to spread anywhere it wants. One of my theories of how it grows is through the distress, anguish, and fear of the people trapped in Silent Hill.

Oh, thanks about the sig :p

i liked 1, 2 and 4. 3 was just bad compared to them all... and the music didnt work well ether

Really? I thought the shadow effects in 3 were amazing, and it had some of the creepiest moments I've seen (the room where the bathtub leaks black and you see yourself dying in the mirror/the room full of mannequin pieces, the lights go out, and one of the mannequins screams and loses a head ... and is bleeding).

2 was the scariest IMO, but also IMO 4 was the least scary. It DID bug me that his apartment looked IDENTICAL to an apt I lived in in San Diego (minus the grainy textures, ghosts, chained-up door, and hole in the bathroom), but those nightmares were instigated through coincidence :D. I felt gypped that we got such amazing shadows in 3 and in 4 all the rooms were bright enough to see. Also, I wanted more wheelchairs, dammit! XD
(But that room in the hospital with the giant head was certainly a trip)

One of the most overrated game series ever. It's pretty average all things considered. Nothing truly groundbreaking or awesome like many of the fanboys make it out to be.

I disagree. I think it does horror better than all of its contenders. It just needs to get the control system down a little better.

Well,, the 3D control scheme works pretty well I say. I had no problems controlling James, Heather, Henry, or Harry as such.

Oh, and the whole Pyramid Head being in New International Track & Field DS was on Wikipedia only, so I dunno how reliable it actually is.

Now, now, this is bordering on trolling here. Bickering about what's better is pointless.

And anyway, saying that it's mediocre without telling us why is also kinda trolling, especially in a thread about the game, which Dopples started because he obviously likes the games (and I do, too).

Let's be nice? :*)

You're right, so I'm gonna drop it.

Anyways, who else thinks the Sheperds in Silent Hill 5 are related to Mary, James' deceased wife?

I think so, but I don't think they'll say it directly. There might be like a scrap of paper or something that may hint at it, but then they never actually confirm it. But I like supposing about it ^_^

I read that they're planning on making it a lot more like SH2, which is a big bonus. Yeesh, I remember being in the underground prison (what an f'ed up town even before it was f'ed up) and walking through the corridor of prison cells. There was a zombie guy like, moaning and banging on the cell bars, but until I found him I thought for sure it was something on the ceiling above me (the ceiling seemed to go up forever into pitch darkness). How CREEPY!

Anyway I read that the same guy who did the music/SFX for SH2 is onboard for SH5, which makes me a happy lady. I just hope they also bring back that INCREDIBLE shadow system from SH3, I was SO disappointed when it was gone in SH4 (and I wasn't terribly fond of the ghosts, except for the ones that haunted your apartment ... Remember the peephole one??? Bwwwuuhhh~~~~)

You know what pissed me off about the movie? I was totally digging it until they made Alessa's mom to be the good guy. It was so much better that Alessa's mom was the one who burned her!

Well, the movie isn't canon anyways, so I don't think it mattered. What I want to know is a little more into the Orosco family. Angela's story seems easy enough to figure out, but it sure seemed like Angela visited Silent Hill before SH2, seeing as she knew the way to the town, and knew where everything was. Also, I am curious as to see how she saw the town.

Yes indeed. :3

Ah, but, I dunno if Pyramid Head is the best candidate for being a track and field star. Seems more like, he'd trip and fall over due to being top-heavy - but on the up side, he'd probably impale competitors around him in the doing so.

Meh, if you remember the long hallway in Silent Hill 2's Brookhaven Hospital (It's where Maria dies the first time), Pyramid Head is actually pretty fucking fast, considering he was able to keep up with James even though he was running the entire time.

Silent Hill 1 is a classic, nice dark ambiance, awesome post-industrial soundtrack done by Mr. Yamaoka.
Great horror game. Now, many things in SH are based in Japanese folklore, like the *anti-air attack (or whatever you call it in english) sirens, the appearance of bathrooms, etc.
Silent Hill 2 was quite a touching history, specially in one of the endings when you drive towards the lake (to kill yourself) bringing with you the dead body of your wife after reading a quite sad letter she left you longtime ago. Now that was a masterpiece, sad, somber, diabolically done.
3 and 4, meh, didnt really like them, I mean, they were ok.
