Let's Plays

I'm bored, lols.

Does anyone here watch Let's Plays or make them? XD

Let's Plays are basically playthroughs of a game with commentary attached to them. Hopefully hilarious commentary, but still.

Some questions to get this started! YAY!

Who is your favorite Let's Player, and why?
Have you ever watched one and went, ugh?
Why do you watch LPs?

Me:
Who is your favorite Let's Player, and why? Kikoskia, because he is darn friggin funny in all that he does. xD

An example:

P.S. Kiko is the voice of an antagonist in Ghost Shards because I asked him so. ^__^

P.S.S. Yes I liiiiiike Kiko, so what? XD

Have you ever watched one and went, ugh?
Tons of times! My least favorite time was when I was watching someone LP one of the old Elder Scroll games, and in the middle he webcammed his face playing the game. I was like... Oh dear, I don't want to have to look at you and the game. o.o

Why do you watch LPs?
I'll be honest. I am not a good gamer, nor do I have the money spend on games I want to play/played from my childhood. So instead, I'll watch someone play the game for me, and I can enjoy it that way. :D

Not only that, if I know I want to play the game, I will watch them play it first and take notes for when I play.

It's how I roll. B)

I personally dont like lps that much because they spoil games that i am going to play. I hate spoilers with a passion you have no idea x;
the only LP i have seen was a yume nikki one. It was pretty good. I skipped around a bit but it highlighted everything. But tbh if you arent watching a LP with Yume Nikki when playing it you probably arent going to get far ~

This. I detest spoilers so fucking much and I WILL rage like mad if someone spoils a game for me that I'm playing. There's been times where someone (Even on these forums people have done it without knowing) has spoiled a game I'm either playing, or fancy playing (Just bought it), and I'm just like y'know what, I don't even want to finish it/start it now, and I put it back on the shelf and NEVER touch it again.

As for LP's, nope, don't like them either, the idea of someone spoiling a game for me AND TALKING ABOUT IT THE ENTIRE WAY THROUGH would just drive me insane and make me want to find and kill them.

the only Let plays worth watcing are for games like minecraft... cause then there is zero spoilers. other then that imo they are a waste of time

I like Let's Plays a whole lot. I attempted to do my own version of one (on LiveStream) on this forum with Amnesia a while back, but almost no one here seems to dig the concept of watching a playthrough :<

I really like watching playthroughs though, especially when I can interact with the player and tell them stupid things to do ;x

I personally couldn't give two shits about spoilers ... My time is too finite to personally invest so much of it in making sure I virginally sit through/play through every damn thing that piques my interest.

These aren't specifically LP people, but I like Criken & mans1ay3r.

Ahaha, I'm glad you liked the Mortal Kombat video. XD

It's not my favorite of his, but still. ^__^

I miss Kiko, I shall watch more of his videos to cheer me up. :D

I like watching speedruns of games I've played. Walkthroughs of really old games. I only like commentary if the person is really informed and insightful. Or during horror games, but only if the player is genuinely scared/surprised and not faking it.
Can't stand bad audio, ignorant 12yo, people that just makes sounds or curse the entire time.

Like most other things on the internet, 90% of Let's Plays are really terrible and not all that interesting for anybody who isn't playing the game. Most are pretty obnoxious and loud and just... stupid.

I only watch LPs of games I've already played and really enjoyed so that I can see how others play the game and hopefully get some new insights into its design.

That's very true.

Most of the time, when I want to see something real quick on a game, and I hear someone talking, it grates my ears.

To be honest, I don't even know how I started subscribing to some LPers because some of them are either boring or annoying. O_oa

The only one I really watch is Kikoskia, but nowadays it's probably because I like him. *shrugs*

The only LP's I ever watch are those made by the Deadworkersparty. (3 dudes playing Minecraft)
They usually film a series of episodes in which they complete a certain Adventure map in Minecraft.
The editing (effects, music, etc.) is excellent and the guys are a joy to listen to, I'd definitely recommend their channel to anyone, whether you are into Minecraft or not.

Other than that I really can't stand LP's, because of the same reasons others have already mentioned..

I love Let's Plays. To me, they are a good way to experience a game without putting any actual effort into it. Usually, though, I will only watch an LP if I have either beaten the game already, gotten stuck to the point of ultimate frustration, or if I have no interest in actually playing it myself. It's a good thing to have on in the background when working on something else. My favorite LPer would have to be ScottishDuck17. I think he's pretty funny, even when he rages during the really tough bits.

I do Let's Plays of my own, as well, and post them on YouTube. I've already done a number of games from various genres, and I'm currently running through five games at once, two of which are based in Minecraft. Of those, one is an Adventure LP where I play through different adventure maps, and the other is all about Roleplay, and is set on the Celestial Dreams server. The other three games I'm doing right now are: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Silent Hill 3 HD, and Beyond Good & Evil HD.

Thanks to both of you. I've been going for nearly 2 years now, but have just recently gotten to 500 subscribers. I even released a minecraft timelapse video for my 500sub special.

Well thats neat congrats!
My only criticism about them is that you talk during cutscenes. Like when you first meet Claudia in the mall; its kind of hard to understand/get into the story when there is someone talking during it. But that is my personal preference! And I didnt watch all our LPs so I dont know if you do that in all of them.
Again these are cool!

I feel as if I'm not doing the right thing when commentating if there are long period when I'm not talking. Regardless, though, I do put on the subtitles whenever possible. If it isn't, I do my best to shut up when story stuff is going on.
