Important! This game is stand alone. It does not require the RPG Maker VX RTP to be installed.

Introduction
Legionwood 2: Revolution In Taltarus is a thematic sequel to the RPG Maker VX game Legionwood: Tale Of The Two Swords.
This game features characters, names and concepts which appeared in the original game but it is important to note that this game's story and setting are unrelated to that of the prequel.
The idea was to create a similar but somewhat different game. As such Revolution In Taltarus looks different, feels different and plays differently to the first Legionwood, but retains enough similarites so as to appeal to players of the first game.
This said, Revolution In Taltarus is a rather standard J-RPG style game, with a slight emphasis on dungeon crawling and puzzle solving above exploration or character upgrading. If you like J-RPGs, you should like this too.

Story Outline

A great evil has gripped the world. Time itself has been mutilated, and the all will forever be doomed to relive the same life of terror over and over until the one who bears the Creator's soul arrives, one who will carry the legendary sword and restore peace to the world and rewrite the planet's history itself...

The world of Taltarus hangs on the brink of war. The Arechon Empire, stable and neutral for many decades has mysteriously launched a war campaign on the free lands of the world.
Harnessing the legendary power of Mana, which created the world, rumoured to be impossible to control save for the prophesised demon said to arrive at the brink of Taltarus's life, the Emperor encroaches on Endor, the last free kingdom.
Rean, holding a legendary weapon known as the Sword of Lore passed down to him from the hero Gaia, is set to play an important and unforseen role in the death and rebirth of the planet. long with his companions, the Remnants, members of the world's last free army, Rean will set out on a journey to reseal the Mana Shards, sources of the emperor's power, before the Mana balance becomes unstable and Taltarus itself tears into pieces.
What they experience along the way changes their lives, their destinies, and the fate of everyone alive now and everyone yet to be born. They must discover the dark secret behind the empire's invasion, a secret that has held the world in it's grasp for thousands of years, and one which links them intimately with both the current crisis and the very birth of Taltarus.

But first Rean must uncover his own past, and discover a secret about himself that he'd rather have not known.

Why is the empire suddenly bent on world domination? Where did they obtain the power to control Mana? Why are they systematically destroying the free nations of Taltarus? How is Rean interlinked with the entity that controls them?

Game Features:
- Experience an intricate and emotional story starring eight characters, each with their own personality and battle strategy.
- Defeat multitudes of carefully scripted foes using a familiar turn based battle system. These enemies are smart and you'll need to think rather than just mash "Attack" to beat them!
- Explore a massive J-RPG world. Legionwood 2 has a great emphasis placed on exploration and dungeon crawling, each location is vast, intricately mapped and full of quests to solve and treasures to discover.
- Play various fun mini games including rapier duelling, a monster arena, Blackjack, and more to earn money and items.

Update:

A bug preventing game progress was found in the Tarm Ruins. This has been fixed and a new download has been added to the first post. Sorry for the inconvenience to those hindered by the bug.

I'm currently playing this right now, and let me say I love it. The storyline is believable, the characters are interesting, and the maps aren't just a square room with NPCs. The custom systems add a lot to the gameplay without bogging the player down, and the battles are balanced. I hope this becomes a full feature game.

Thanks very much! I try to do my best. This is a side project of mine (my main RPG project is Legionwood, which hasn't been released on this site but will be with the latest version coming in the next few weeks) but I do intend on finishing it. Keep an eye on it!

If you like this, be sure to try Legionwood when it is released in the coming weeks.

It sure is; in fact I'd say it's better. This project is a side project while Legionwood is my main one. Tell you what; I'll PM you when it's released. In the mean time, why not try my survival horror games, One Night and The Beyond?

Oh, and yay, this is my second game featured on YouTube.

I appreciate the video though, it all helps more people learn about the game. The trick to completing a game is perserverance. Make sure you work a little bit on it everyday, even if you don't want to, and eventually it will pay off.

Major(ish) Update!

As of today I have officially adopted Taltarus: The Legacy as the thematic and chronological sequel to Legionwood. Thus, the game has been renamed to Legionwood II: Legacy Of Taltarus and a new download has been released to reflect this.
However, if you have already played the game when it was known as Taltarus: The Legacy, you'll find no new content.

Update:

I've decided that the original Legionwood should be finished first before I begin to support this game again, so I've made the decision to remove the download link from this profile until development of this game resumes. This way nobody will be stuck with a demo version that will not be continued for months at least. Once development begins again, I can stick to a stable release schedule.

Hey, Legionwood fans!

I've decided to release the trial edition of Legionwood 2 today, which will be the first and only release before the completed version.

This is the Trial Edition of Legionwood 2 - the demo that will precede the full game's release and which will be used to garner feedback and criticism which I can use to improve the game.

This demo is about three hours in length. You do not need the RPG Maker VX RTP to play and your save file will also be compatible with the completed game on the far off day of its release.

The purpose of this release is to showcase the main concepts and gameplay of Legionwood 2 and to guage people's reactions to it.

Should be up on RMN within 24 hours!

yeah I gotta say, mixing resolutions like you are here is pretty ugly to look at. if you're going to use low-res snes-style sprites, you really can't have high-res text and world map sprites tossed in like that. it's a pointless incongruity that breaks the illusion and looks like shit.

dafont.org and most other font sites have selections of free "bitmap" fonts that mimic low-resolution text. I don't remember exactly, but putting the .ttf in the game directory (maybe in a folder labeled Fonts? I'm gonna have to look this up) should allow you to use it without requiring the player to install it on their own, either.

the rest is just common sense; that is, not shrinking a 2x sprite to 1x, leaving it in a 2x environment, and saying to yourself "yeah that looks okay."

also it's great seeing Mr. Slayer Of Monsters Around The World back in action alongside the World's Only Japanese Man.

depends, if x is 0 then it's the same either way.

No, but really he is right EXCEPT about the font, you can't just put it in your game folder, the user will have to install it. Just make sure you get a font you can legally redistribute and then I am sure no one minds getting new fonts :D

actually I just tested it out with the help of some dude in irc. putting the font in a folder named "Fonts" in the game's directory does allow it to be displayed ingame without installation. handy!

Yeah, that font's only a placeholder until I find a decent low res one. Also, the world map scaling's done by a script, but I'm going to do it manually via events so I can pixellate the scaled image and achieve a low resolution. I'm aware of these things and I intend to fix them. This is after all, only early days for the game. Mainly I've been working on the battlebacks and monsters for now, lowering their resolution to match the characters.

Yes, everyone, this is a remake of Tales of Worlds, because that was a pile of crap. The first Legionwood was intended as a prequel to Tales of Worlds, and so here we are.

@mawk: Thanks for the help with the font. I'll try that out! Also, you *do* realise that Sadeske actually does hail from an oriental nation in the game? You get to visit it in the later parts of the game. It's called Yasako. That is, he's not the only Japanese man in the world, he just doesn't live in his homeland obviously. However, they are no longer questing for a katana any more, now it's just the plain old Sword of Lore. You played the original "Tales of Worlds" didn't you? It was such a pile of steaming shit. Trust me, this game's a lot better.

Here, I'll link you to a very well hidden download. I no longer associate myself with this game. Do with it what you will; http://rpgmaker.net/games/472/downloads/658/

Legionwood 2 is my attempt to remake that game into something that actually has quality. After you're done playing Tales Of Worlds try the Legionwood 2 demo and compare! It's currently in the queue over at RMN to be accepted, and it should be up very soon.
