Leaving for a while

Last year, I was infected with pertussis. Pertussis is a virus more commonly known as whooping cough. I started coughing the day after Thanksgiving last year and the cough didn't subside until the end of May. During this time, I was unable to go to school because we feared that walking around would aggravate the cough to the point where I would injure myself. It may sound stupid, but I actually broke one of my ribs in the worst of it. You have no idea how painful it is to have a broken rib and still be coughing. At the beginning of May, I was deemed well enough to go to school, but I was sick constantly because my immune system was weakened from dealing with the pertussis virus, so it wasn't until the end of May that I was really able to put myself in overdrive and get everything done so I could pass Junior year.

It was also during this time that I discovered RPG Maker. I had gotten RPG Maker 2 for the PS2 first a while before that Thanksgiving and had recently gotten RPG Maker 3. In a discussion on Gaiaonline, I discovered RPG Maker XP and ended up buying it in the beginning of March. My birthday is March 8, so I used some of my birthday money to purchase it.  After a couple of weeks, I decided to search for a script, and that led me here.  I didn't expect to get involved in a forum community, but I learned that RPG Maker VX was coming out soon, so I stuck around.

Over the summer, the cough disappeared, and I thought I was going to have a normal senior year.  Plus, being introduced to RPG Maker made me start thinking about getting into the video game industry, so I had a general direction of where I wanted to go.  Two weeks after school started, I got a head cold, which I almost always do when school starts.  However, the cold turned into much more.  The cough reflex I had left over from pertussis was reactivated, and the process started all over again.  I'm still coughing, and, like last year, I haven't been able to go to school.  The cough shouldn't have lasted this long, but the doctors I've been to don't seem to know what's wrong.  I've been on and off all types of medicine and cough remedies, but nothing seems to help.  It's not pertussis again and they've scanned my chest and sinuses multiple times, so they're basically shrugging their shoulders and telling me good luck.  I even went to the Yale Medical Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut to see the pulmonologist that was the first to figure out I had pertussis last year, but even he hasn't been able to help the cough.  And, of course, every time I get better I'll get another cold that'll make it worse again because my immune system is weak.

Not being in school for my senior year is really starting to get hectic.  I have loads of work, and I feel like crap half the time and don't feel like doing it, but it's starting to pile up.  Besides that, I've been neglecting some of my other stuff, like a couple of stories I'm working on and some game ideas, because I've tried keeping up with my duties here.  Now, however, I need to take a break from this place.  This forum is at the top of my list of things to cut because it's big and requires a lot of attention that I just can't give right now.  So, until my life calms down and things get back to normal, I'm not going to be around.  Hopefully, by next summer, I'll be able to come back and be active again.  Until then, I won't be posting, although I may stop by to check the latest news and update my profile every now and then.

And to the staff: I would usually demote myself to a member for now, but I wasn't sure if you wanted to keep me as a moderator or not.  Feel free to demote me for the time that I'm gone, but I'll definitely be back this summer, or earlier if things go well, and willing to resume from where I left off.

So, for now, I'll see you all later. :thumb:

Sponsor

yeah, I don't think you're expected to demote yourself -- even if you were stepping down permanently, you'd still just go down to Sponsor (with staff forum privileges? I don't remember!) and either way I think that's handled by the higher-ups.

man, that sucks. I can't really imagine that kind of situation (except that it sucks, of course,) but I admire your gumption in cutting out funtime in favour of catching up with your stuff. forums are addictive. @_@

best of luck with your schoolwork and your health, dude. here's hoping you'll be able tor resolve everything by this summer so you can relax a bit (and, y'know, not cough.)

That sucks Guardian. Especially becuase you can't go to school, all that work's gotta be hell. Here's hopinh you'll get better soon and be able to start coming here again :)

Aw, that's sad to hear. I thought you were(are) always a nice, helpful guy, a great mod to have around. Never knew you had a bad sickness until today. Well, take it easy, and get well soon...

I put you down to Sponsor with ex-staff privelages. When you return, you're more than welcome back to your old gig.
I'm sorry you're going through a rough time with your health. That's never fun. I hope they figure out whatever is causing this to you and fix it. You're a good kid and deserve a lot better :(

Good luck, Guardian, sorry we were all kind of faggy towards you in the beginning, but you've really made a name for yourself here and you'll be sorely missed :(.

I even went to the Yale Medical Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut to see the pulmonologist that was the first to figure out I had pertussis last year, but even he hasn't been able to help the cough.
