Intro

Okay, so this is one of my many attempts to make a game, So it might just go dead all together. Im not so epic with rpg maker, especailly XP, but im using it because of the better scripting possibilites it has over VX. I left cuz I had PC issues. When i fixed them i forgot to log bak in here.

Gameplay

Well, I'm going to attempt to make a side scroller/platformer game. The only problem i have is with maps, some are hard to make linear, so if anybody can help me out with that then pm me. About the fighting system, I'm using XAS ABS because the enemies are more cuztomizable than any other abs i know on any other maker, witch helps alot in a platformer game.

Back Story

In 2004 a scientist tried to make "fake" humans. All his creations were terribly flawed until 2008. That year he successfully created an unnamed human. Later, the scientist named him GEMINI DRN - 001, Gemini for short. About a year later, ARIES DRN - 002 (Aries for short) was created by the same scientist. The two were meant to just be housekeepers for the scientist, until a tragic outbreak occurred. An unknown infection had spread across Carmina Gadelica (Their home town). It caused deaths of many citizens, until they accused the scientist. His robots caused this unknown infection. The people formed a mob and tried to destroy the two creations, but they went berserk and wiped out the entire mob. The survivors evacuated that part of Carmina Gadelica, locking Gemini and Aries away in what is now called the "slums".

Cruz
Age: 16
Gender: Male

The main character of the game. He uses a small gun to fight. He can use Model X, an adapter to his gun and use an even stronger gun.
Weapon: Rock Buster, Copy X(He gets copy X at a certain part of the game)

Akira

Akira is Cruz's friend, she uses a small gun like Cruz. She accompanies Cruz while they fight to kill Gemini and Aries
Weapon: Wave Burner
Special Attack: Nova Strike

Akira's friend. She thinks he's the smartest person she knows and that causes him to treat Akira and Cruz like there dumb.
Weapon: Zero Buster

Giro is Cruz's best friend. like anyone else, he uses a gun in battle, but has the power to transform into Model Z, which uses a sword.
Weapon: Model A, Broken Wing Sword

Why are all of your cities named after the Root Towns from .Hack? Why did the beasts poke around and wait 8 years to take revenge? What's the "Bio" disease and what does it do? Why is there absolutely no information on the characters? Why are you using RTP characters in conjunction with a completely different style of character?

Why did you post this when you have almost no information typed up, and you obviously weren't ready?

XD Ok, First, I was gonna base my game off of .hack, thats why. Hm.... Nothing to say about the monsters poking around, ill edit that up, thanx. Well, the disease kills you, im no scientist so i cant be specific. No information on the characters cuz I just started on this, ive been focusing on other stuff. The RTP Characters r apart of the tileset, i think it comes with extra tiles that lets me take them out, i forget.

When you ask if i'm ready, i just think, who cares, cuz im doing this alone, so i posted this in advance to get help.

EDIT: i fixed the whole "beast" thing with the story. It makes alot more sense now than them just waiting 8 years.
 
Why would you make a side-scrolling platformer in RMXP? The infrastructure is simply not made to handle that kind of stuff. If I were you, I'd definitely do it in XNA, which comes with libraries and documentation that will really make it easy on you, as well as a better programming environment with Visual C#/Studio 2008. It also takes a pretty small amount of time to learn how to code a basic platformer. If you really can't program, though, I would recommend Game Maker over RMXP, since it actually has stuff like gravity and collision that you would need.

I'll try that if i fail this, Well, since its RPG Maker, u cant expect it to be like Megaman or Battletoads. But I wanna try something and it works. Those Platform Scripts dont work with XAS, so its kind of an "evented" platformer. Also, i cant rly understand Half of what you said. Plz dont repeat urself cuz Im gonna end up not listening.

@Jaberwoky Ah, Jaberwoky, its been a long time my friend B) and Deathitis sounds like something off of a cartoon, and to me, it doesnt sound too serious.

And nobody talked about my screenshot except for moe about the RTP thing. Is it too bad for words, or r u guys just gonna let it pass?
 
The screensshot isn't that bad. you can post it in Mapping Improvement Thread, so people can help you improve it. It doesn't look like a side-scroller map at all, though.
Not much to say about the game, it's a good start- just keep working on it.

Wow, i thought i'd never get a good comment. Ik it doesnt look much like a side scroller, but i used what i had. I made an invisible tile un-passable, and then i put it around the tiles that ur not suppose to walk on, so u can only go on 1 row of tiles, like in a side scroller. And i tried my best to fill the map, a regular stage from the game will be alot easier than using these modern tile sets. Thanx for your post B)

Don't mean to be harsh, but you might as well give up if you ignore such helpful feedback. Rayne Aven is right; RMXP is not a very good engine for platformers. If you're serious about this, I would definitely learn a programming language or at least try Game Maker. Otherwise, good luck, but I have to warn you, it's going to take a lot more effort if you continue along this path.

That said, you're going to have to work a lot on your mapping and characters. Everything about them screams "cliche" (main characters under 18 saving the world from Bio?). It's really seen in too many games, and while you could pull it off, it'd be better to start out with a more creative plot. The maps are quite empty and really don't work for a side-scrolling platformer (the angle is off). Try reading a few tutorials and using the Mapping Improvement Thread for more feedback.

xD Fine, ill think of what the disease does. It sends a virus inside of your body that slowly eats away at your heart, but does that make any sense? If it does then ill use it.

Like you said, XP isnt a good engine for a platformer, so do the tutorials tell you about making Linear maps? Ik the town isnt too good btw, but until i get better i use what i can.

Pfft, who said they saved the world? I could make them all die in the end... But seriously, I got the ages to match the characters, Rio from Draglade 2 (guy in the screenshot) doesnt look like he's 20 or whatever. few people do except for the NPCs. And i want all my characters to look like there from the same game.
 
Hey, it's looking much nicer with the custom graphics. I would suggest moving the rest of the HUD up to the top, where it won't block the view on the street. The plot still isn't the freshest, but if you're okay with it I would put a bigger focus on gameplay.

Same here, cuz i forget all about story when i play any game. But it does kinda need help. I decided to think outside my ass with the graphics, no matter how long it will take. It beats regular RTP, it gives me a bad "RPG Maker XP" feeling that it has and What VX doesnt, its the difference in the
programing. The reason why i woud normally give up is cuz lm makin this alone. So that means im makin this long ass tileset by myself. my friend moved so hes out. And if i try to get a group, they flake or i just dont get help, ill post a topic of that later. ANYWAY, moving the HUD is what i want to do, but idk how, i cant find it in any of the XAS scripts. (Was very long, longer than i planned this post to be)

Ty, still not done with it though. Im only half way done with the whole tileset. The maps take less than a minute.
EDIT: Im done now. It was quicker today :D
