language for game making

Best programming language for game making? I'm trying to program a game, and I need to know the best language to make one in. One that is easy to learn, as I do not want to spend my time learning a big language like C++, just to make a game. I need a language that is specific for game making, and is also advanced enough to make a good game with.

I'd learn Ruby, and go with something like Gosu. I know you don't want to learn a big language, but in all honesty none of the languages are really "big", they're just different ways of doing the same things. Once you have the concepts down learning other languages is a lot simpler. I started with Ruby and it feels simple enough to get going with some quick games and such, while being a good enough language to teach you about languages, if that makes sense.

Ruby is still quite complex. Find a game engine that has the lua scripting language exposed, Lua is on par with basic in terms of ease of use. PyGame is popular with people who don't want to learn programming but want to throw down a quick game, but I can't comment on the python language as it's one I haven't yet looked at.

Edit: oh and to note; no one learns C++, it is far too bloated and full of messy standard library features that it's become impossible to learn (and still write sane code with).
