Just not getting it...

Okay so I've read through some tuts and I understand the basics of ruby like setting variables and arrays and what not. But it seems like the simple things are illuding me...Like how to tell it to draw a graphic. For instance, let's say I wanted to show the characters weapon and symbol in Window_MenuStatus I can see the code for it in Window_Status but if I try to just plug it in there it gives me a no method error...can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, besides being an idiot? :p

You're probably just putting it in the wrong place, or your request is to vague for the reader to understand. Sometimes you need to add things before things like @. A lot of the time you cant just cut and paste code, because its written differently depending on where it is and how you want it to be used. Its a good idea to look up custom menu systems and see how they did it. Compare that to what you're doing. And real the help file a lot to make sure you're doing the right thing.
