Ok, this is a bit of a different approach to the contest, as I don't feel like making an RPG.
Story
Ok, this is a working concept, so the story is a bit vague.
You're playing as Johnny Ashtray, a lost Adventurer in an unnamed land
(so far) You find, in front of you, a looming tower, one so large, you
seem an intsect in the large grasp of it's shadow. Being the adventurer
you are, you immediately start to climb it. The climb isn't easy. The
monsters inhabiting the dark, looming menace are bigger than you, stronger
than you, and smell worse than an unshowered adventurer (you).
System
The game's system is a traditional platform game, like that of mario, etc.
The engine is pygame/retrogamelib, and is written in python. The system is
cross platform, and can be run on almost every end-user operating system:
Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, Haiku, etc.
I'm considering mixing in a music theme into the engine (jump height
dependent on music pitch/something) But for now, working on graphics and
level design.
Content
All 8 bit art, blah blah
The music is going to be done by my wonderful band, Rainbow Vending Machine,
in the style of chiptune music. Viral Marketing.
Character
Johnny Ashtray
He's a seasoned adventurer, smokes unfiltered cigarettes, and likes apple
pies (plural) He likes climbing large unnasuming towers, and jumping on the
heads of his enemies. A total hearthrob.
EDIT: Engine Test Screenshots: (NOT ACTUAL LEVELS :D)
