Well it doesn't take him long, does it? The Halo 3 beta was released only last week and that pathetic scavenger Jack Thompson has already leapt upon Microsoft, penis erect with rage, in an attempt to try and take the spotlight away from games and place it firmly back upon himself -- because watching this disturbed old jester masturbate for our viewing pleasure is clearly the most important thing in the world.
Jack Thompson, the middle-aged man who thinks about children playing in their bedrooms, has issued one of his insane, dribbling demands to Bill Gates himself. That's right, the twatspanner is threatening Bill Gates with legal action.
It's the usual deal: Thompson once again seems to believe that it's up to the games industry to make sure that the retail industry do their jobs by not selling games to minors, and issues yet another ill thought out, preposterous legal threat. "Here?s the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3."​

The usual garbage, right? Yes it's annoying to read, and infuriating on many levels that this ignorant, possibly psychotic individual is shooting his mouth off in yet another desperate ploy for TV time, but this is something I've been waiting for. This is the day that Jack Thompson tries to threaten Microsoft. With any luck, they are going to slaughter him for this.
Now, I'm no fortune teller, but if I may, I'd like to try and predict Microsoft's unofficial response to Jack's little letter:

Oh gimme a fucking break, Halo? There are a lot of more violent games out there, hell, you can barely notice the blood in Halo. Hopefully some day ol' Jack will realize that vidoegames don't make us violent, he makes us violent.

Anyone ever wonder if the whole reason Jack Thompson does this is to increase sales for the games? Think about it, a lot of people go by the way of "I'm not supposed to do this so I'm going to do it anyways" way of thinking, and if the government(or whatever he's with) says you shouldn't play it or children shouldn't play it then everyone will want to know why and therefore buy it.

this is getting pretty ridiculous. i mean i wholly agree with and think steps should be taken to prevent minors from buying M-rated videogames (when i got carded in best buy for trying to buy the first Oblivion expansion i was fucking ecstatic), but SUING THE GAME MAKER is not the way to do this. especially not microsoft.

I truely hope not. Because if that happens, then he basicly becomes a martyr. And that's not good, because people LOVE martyrs. And then take into account the parents who perfer to have the TV raise their kids getting all pissey cause they can't take 2 seconds to check a stupid letter, and you've got a big fiasco.

Anyway, I really hope that we can get vids or transcripts or something of whatever goes on, this is going to be PURE COMEDY GOLD.

Knee-jerk ideologues of all stripes swarm around tragedies like this one because it allows them to warp the event to further their agenda: The antigun lobby blames guns, gun nuts blame the victim's lack of guns, [antigay Kansas minister] Fred Phelps blames homosexuality and Jack Thompson blames Bill Gates.

What many of these simplistic, hair-trigger reactionaries forget is an ancient trueism of the sciences: Correlation does not imply causation. Even if Cho played videogames constantly - Violent ones, at that - to my knowledge, there is no hard evidence that doing so could or would stimulate him into acting out in the real world that he'd expierenced virtually. (I wonder - if Cooking Mama becomes very popular, will kids start whipping up souffles and paella?)

Millions of people play videogames, yet the extreme majority never come close to behaving violently. That seems evidence enough to let videogames off the hook.
