Ivalice Alliance

Square-Enix has announced a new series of games to expand upon a previously established universe, not unlike the World of Mana and Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series. This time, it's the world of Ivalice which first appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics. The first title under this expansion is actually Revenant Wings, which has its own thread and is properly explained there.

The second of which is a port of Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSP, titled Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, which will see various updates-- most important of which are two new Jobs being made available. Others include new movies and such.

Lastly, there is the (not-so-)mysterious "FFT A2", titled Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire. Which everyone suspects is Tactics Advance 2, its not confirmed if its for the GBA or DS.

DS: Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire
PSP: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core

I hope they make FFT:A2 alot harder. FFTA had the basic formula nearly perfectly when it came to the job and skill system and such, but the difficulty was embarressing. But I do remember pouring over 500 hours into making a near perfect army, only to have a friend's sister delete it all... and then to do it again, but better(and this time get Cid), and then lose the god damn game.

It was fun, but way, way, way, way too easy.

FFT: The Lion War has me all in a tizzy. After the glorious descent of Breath of Fire III for PSP, this just keeps getting better and better.

I'm curious about all this though, why port it to the PSP when the PSNetwork will probably release the original PSOne version for PSP anyway?

One thing that's neat is that load times can't exactly ruin Final Fantasy Tactics, since they would be so few and far between.

it will feature new stuff dude. but not like BoF3 that all they added was an art gallery n fishing mini game lmao. dont get me wrong, i consider Breath of Fire 3 on eof the best RPGs in history.

anyway, here's the details on the FFT PSP bro:
Titled Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, the game will apparently be a port of the original FFT (the one with Ramza and the ever-unbalancing Thunder God Cidoflas Orlandu!) with a couple of new jobs added in, including the Onion Knight job class from Final Fantasy III. The game will also feature all-new cel-shaded FMVs and cutscenes.

See, when you said 'Ivalice Alliance' and 'New series of games'.. Well, I was expecting that they were dropping the 'Final Fantasy *' from the name and was all giddy.

My bet, Arc, is that they won't release FFT for the PSNetwork. I'm sure that Nintendo has no intention of putting FF1-6 on the Wii Virtual Console (seeing as they have Advance/DS versions of those titles.)

Square, you have lost a fangirl. -_- First FFXI and X-2, then Advent Children, then FFXII... Now this. Sad. Pathetic.

You're upset about direct sequels? Come now. Granted X-2's story was shite, the game was awesome. I suppose it was a direct sequel cause Square was afraid of losing money on a bad game, so they sold it under X's story. Advent Children was a much awaited, much anticipated, and much desired sequel. It was a bit of a let down story wise, but it was an amazing movie as far as graphics, music scores, and such go. And you haven't even played Revenant Wings yet.

Yes, I'm upset about direct sequels. Part of the charm of the FF series was the bittersweet, often ambiguos endings. They left a lot of room for the fanbase to speculate, and it was nice not to see "and they all lived happily ever after." Sequels in games, as in movies, are rarely good unless it was planned in advance (and even then, not always, witness The Matrix: Reloaded).

But that's not what I'm really upset about. Squeenix hasn't released a good game since FFX. All they're doing is coasting on the FF name with remakes, sequels, and sub-par games.

I could say the same thing applying to since FF6. That is subject to opinion, ccoa. I happen to think FFXII is good, and FFX is terrible.

So far, the direct sequels have offered something new to the mix. FF7:AC was a movie, FFX-2 was mission based and non-linear (with a static party), and FFXII: RW is 2D and on the Nintendo DS.

Think of them as alternatives to the actual game. I hated FFX, but FFX-2 was godly. I hated FF7, but FF7:AC was a good watch. And even though I liked FFXII, from what i've seen of FFXII:RW it looks like i'll like that, too.

Quality of games may be subjective, but it is a fact that nearly everything they've been releasing has been a sequel or remake. It's nothing more than money grubbing. And since they don't seem to be putting much effort into the sequels (and almost none into the remakes), I see no reason to continue to support them. There are better things out there, and I'm moving on.

I realize that they're a company and the point is to make money. However, as a consumer, I demand a certain level of quality. Just like I wouldn't go drop money on typical Hollywood garbage, I'm not going to support them unless they start developing a quality product.

hey ccoa, what's wrong with FFXI?
it's damn awesome, ive never ever enjoyed a game as much as ffxi, played it over 200 days in playtime(well, any mmorpg u get hooked into is dangerously addictin). altho i AFKed a lot of that time.

too bad I sold my account, got a PSP n lots of games with the money, and now I regret it. i dont regret gettin a PSP, but i regret having quit.

you see, FFXI is more than the game, its the community what matters too =)
and yes, even tho mmorpg, it does have storyline and CoP added many ff classic elements, even an amazing fight with omega and ultima weapon. ahhh, that fight was so damn intense and amazing 45 mins.

you should give it a try, believe me, i was annoyed at first when i heard FF was going online but damn, what a success

No, thank you. MMORPGs are a waste of time and money. If I want a community, there are plenty of places, including here, where I can find one for free. I have better things to do than spend hours level grinding while paying for the privilage.
