A number of RPGs have a little sound that plays when a character's speech box is displaying something. The best example I can think of off the top of my head is Golden Sun. If you watch the video for a few seconds, you'll hear what I'm talking about. It seems like you could set up and algorithm to play [sound] @ [insert number] KHz, changing the pitch for each letter of the alphabet. On top of that, each character has their own "tone." I was wonder if this has ever been done in RPG Maker, or if it's even possible.
It's an excellent way to make players feel more connected to their characters. You can see the character, but being able to hear them as well makes it more immersing, IMO. Short of adding voice acting, this seems to be one of the best ways to associate a sound with your character.
